Cataract surgery is now a relatively brief (20 minutes or less) operation, which can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Evans has been performing this procedure by phacoemulsification since 1989. He has been performing cataract surgery using a tiny incision requiring no stitches and topical “eye drop” anesthesia that does not require injections or needles since 1994. In each of the past two years, Dr. Evans has performed more than 1000 cataract procedures in our offices in Wakefield, MA, Beverly, MA, and Winchester, MA.

LASIK is the most widely performed refractive laser eye surgery procedure. LASIK surgery is a 2-step procedure. First, Dr. Evans uses a specialized Femptosecond laser to create a thin clear flap of tissue in the center of the cornea. Then he is able to apply the Excimer laser to reshape your cornea and correct your prescription. Patients having LASIK typically have minimal discomfort and a quick recovery of their vision after their treatment.

If you are nearing the age for cataract surgery and want a reliable vision correction solution, premium lens implants could be a suitable option. These lens implants are also referred to as “lifestyle lens implants” because they can provide excellent vision, sometimes without the need for glasses. Before determining if these premium lens implants are right for you, it is important to discuss your lens implant options with your cataract surgeon. Several years ago patients only had the option of monofocal lens implants, which enabled vision at one distance only. Now these new implants can offer a wide spectrum of vision including near, intermediate and far vision. Premium lens implants have been helping people over the age of 40 and cataract aged patients since they became viable option.

The retina is a thin layer of tissue on the inside back wall of your eye, containing millions of light-sensitive cells and other nerve cells that receive and organize visual information. Your retina sends this information to the brain through your optic nerve, enabling you to see. Many retinal diseases share common symptoms and treatments, but each has unique characteristics. The goal of retinal disease treatments is to stop or slow disease progression and preserve, improve or restore vision

Glaucoma is a common eye disease which causes loss of vision in individuals affected by the condition. Glaucoma develops when the pressure of the fluid inside the eye gets too high. Fluid enters the eye at a structure called the ciliary body and exits the eye at a structure called the trabecular meshwork.
