What unique services does Bay State Physical Therapy - Davis Square in Somerville offer?
At Bay State Physical Therapy's Somerville Davis Square location, we provide specialized dance medicine services and Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy. Our expert team has successfully guided dancers through recovery from injuries such as Lisfranc fractures and sprains, Os Trigonum syndrome, chondral injuries, tendon strains, tendinosis, psoasitis, and many others. Our dance medicine offerings also include Pre-Pointe Assessments for those looking to initiate pointe work into their ballet practice. BFR Therapy is also available and can be a valuable treatment for accelerating recovery and rebuilding strength following injury or surgery.
What is Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy?
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy is a training technique for patients who are recovering from an injury or surgery and cannot safely perform heavy resistance training. This technique uses a band or cuff that partially restricts blood flow during exercise. This creates a low-oxygen environment in the muscle that makes it work harder, even when using very light weights or simple exercises.
BFR Therapy is one of many services offered at our clinic at Davis Square in Somerville, MA, call (617)-623-6300 today to schedule an appointment with our expert staff!
What is a Pre-Pointe Assessment?
We offer one-on-one Pre-Pointe Assessments for the adolescent dancer looking to initiate pointe work into their ballet practice. It is recommended that pointe work preparations should begin at least 1 year before the student is fitted for pointe shoes. For this reason, it is recommended that students have their first Pre-Pointe Assessment one year before they plan to start on pointe to assess what areas need to be improved so the dancers can correct all of these essential elements to prevent injury. Pointe readiness assessments are also provided for the advanced dancer looking to return to pointe with skilled guidance following an injury.
We also provide one on one general health and wellness screens for dancers in order to identify impairments and limitations, develop individualized injury prevention programs, and can make any necessary referrals to maximize health and performance in dancers.
