(Make sure you read till the end) I have an infection in my mouth that was caused by a canker sore being at the end of my mouth, which caused my teeth to bite into it, scratch it, which then got infected. This started friday. By Monday pain was severe, went to a local dentist and was told i need mouth reconstruction, crowns and like 3 fillings. My pain wasn't even addressed, they didn't even talk about an infection or anything. When i brought it up they said come in for a cleaning tomorrow maybe it ll help. Next day the pain kept getting worse. I asked a friend of mine to recommend me a good dentist because the first one didnt convince me. He said you have to go see DR EL- SAMRA he is the best. I call Wednesday morning tell them my story and that im in pain. They say come in at 11am, same day just 2 hrs later. I get in the car, drive all the way there 42 min away. They do a couple X rays, doctor comes in , takes a quick look at my mouth and immediately identifies what's causing the infection and the pain. He then proceeds to smoothen the teeth that bite into it, and prescribed me antibiotics. As of then I was managing the pain with just tynelol and advil. However later that day the pain started getting severe. What i was taking was not cutting it. I call next morning, they prescribed me something stronger for the pain. I take it the first time, nothing absolutely nothing. I then call again to tell them the medicine didn't do anything. The front desk lady that picked up the phone was very knowledgeable and explained to me that the antibiotic will need 24-48hrs to start doing its job, she then explained to me how to specifically take the next set of medications to fight the pain. I did exactly what she said and for the first time in like 2 days i was able to get a good sleep. By now its been 3 days since when i saw them, the antibiotics are doing their job, so i barely need pain medication anymore, at least not the strong one. I am extremely grateful to the doctor and his team. They literally saved my mouth from getting God knows how much worse. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. It really does feel like these guys care about the wellbeing of their patients instead of just maximizing the money they can get from their insurance. May God bless them all

Frequently Asked Questions About Mass Ave Dental

What type of toothbrush and toothpaste should I use?

Buy toothbrushes with soft bristles. Medium and firm ones can damage teeth and gums. Use soft pressure, for 2 minutes, two times a day. Both powered and manual toothbrushes clean teeth well. Manual brushes with mixed bristle heights or angled britles clean better than those with all flat, even bristles. Powered toothbrushes may be easier if you have trouble with using your hands. Set a reminder to replace your toothbrush every 2-4 months. Toss it sooner if the bristles look bent or splayed out. Bent bristles don't clean as well. (they're also a sign you may be brushing too hard.) Most toothpaste will clear away bacteria growth and acids from food and drinks. Toothpaste with the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Acceptance always have fluoride, which strengthens and protects teeth. If you want a non-fluoride option, stores carry toothpaste and powders made with natural ingredients that don't have ADA testing and approval. If cold or hot food or drinks make you cringe, pick a toothpaste for sensitive teeth and let your dentist know.

Do I really need to floss?

There's no getting around the need to get around your teeth daily with dental floss. It clears flood and plaque from between teeth and under the gumline. If you don't, plaque hardens into tartar, wich forms wedges and widens the space between teeth and gums, causing pockets. Over time, gums pull away and teeth loosen. Either waxed or unwaxed floss will do the job. Using floss picks or interdental brushes is another easy option.
