- MMMegan MoutonMay 13, 20262.0Today I had one of the most embarrassing shopping experiences I’ve ever had at this store. A family member ordered a birthday cake for her son’s 4th birthday, and I offered to pick it up for her because she was busy. I paid for the cake first, then continued shopping for two additional items before checking out again. After I got home, my family member contacted me saying store employees were accusing me of stealing the cake. The employee at self-checkout and another employee from the bakery both claimed they “saw me on camera stealing,” even though I had already paid for the cake and had the receipt with the timestamp to prove it. I called the store myself and instead of first checking the transaction, I was accused AGAIN and asked if I had “really paid for it.” Only after speaking with a manager and explaining everything did I receive an apology, but even then the employees continued making comments like “people steal cakes a lot.” I understand stores have to prevent theft, but falsely accusing paying customers without properly verifying purchases is unacceptable. The situation was humiliating, stressful, and completely avoidable. Customers deserve to be treated with respect, not automatically assumed guilty.
