She convinced me of the benefits a power chair might have on my life and boy am I glad I listened! She completely revolutionized my life. The amount of care and compassion she showed along with the wisdom gained from her many years of experience in the field completely blew me away. Not only does she support people with disabilities in her work life, she has also devoted much of her own personal time standing up for those of us with special accessibility needs, even going so far as to start her own project, COEXIST, helping to speak up for us when no one else will. She truly changed my life. She returned to me a sense of independence that I haven't felt since I was still fully able bodied. She goes above and beyond every single time. I truly hope that National Seating and Mobility know what an absolute gem she is and pay her accordingly! I really wish more people understood the many day to day difficulties that individuals with physical disabilities face the way Joy does. If they did, I can guarantee you that the world would be a better place.

To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?

Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
