Ms Joy came install my son’s cubby bed. She was absolutely amazing and went over everything with me. I appreciate all of her help from the initial process of getting it ordered to it actually becoming a reality for my son.

Absolute dream experience. Joy Nix is exactly the type of ally that wheelchair users like myself need. She convinced me of the benefits a power chair might have on my life and boy am I glad I listened! She completely revolutionized my life. The amount of care and compassion she showed along with the wisdom gained from her many years of experience in the field completely blew me away. Not only does she support people with disabilities in her work life, she has also devoted much of her own personal time standing up for those of us with special accessibility needs, even going so far as to start her own project, COEXIST, helping to speak up for us when no one else will. She truly changed my life. She returned to me a sense of independence that I haven't felt since I was still fully able bodied. She goes above and beyond every single time. I truly hope that National Seating and Mobility know what an absolute gem she is and pay her accordingly! I really wish more people understood the many day to day difficulties that individuals with physical disabilities face the way Joy does. If they did, I can guarantee you that the world would be a better place.

My daughter has been waiting 4 months for a wheelchair repair to get approved. NSM has not even submitted the quote to insurance yet. AFTER FOUR MONTHS. She is currently at college and stuck in the hallway because the wheelchair will not move. Unbelievable!!!!!!

We are now transferring my mother’s care to National Seating & Mobility, and the experience so far has been very positive. Amanda was extremely helpful and took the time to connect me with Azby to check loaner inventory after an emergency issue with my mother’s scooter right before our vacation.
Both Amanda and Azby were kind, patient, and very well informed. They clearly understood the urgency of the situation and explained everything in a way that actually made sense. After dealing with a previous provider who dropped my mother due to unresolved insurance issues, it was a huge relief to work with people who genuinely wanted to help and knew exactly what they were doing.
National Seating & Mobility has been professional, responsive, and supportive during a stressful time. We feel confident moving forward with them and truly appreciate the care and effort shown by Amanda and Azby.

Back in June, I got in contact with Miss Joy from national seating and mobility about a Cubby Bed for my daughter. Shortly after we received approval, my daughter’s insurance removed the cubby bed from their approved items list. Thankfully NS&M had already received the bed; we were just waiting on a letter of coverage. Her insurance then ran us through the wringer for the next few months, making us jump through hoops for a simple letter head, and Miss Joy championed for us. Every time I called her with a new authorization number to give the insurance to try and get this done, she called them. She called doctors and insurance, and kept back up options available if the insurance decided to fall through. When we finally received what we needed to move forward with delivery, miss joy came out herself to build the bed. She was beyond a god send throughout this entire process and if I ever need anything else for my daughter I will definitely be contacting them again.
Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. We work from the heart, honoring your journey of independence with efficient, friendly attention that puts your interests first. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
