Our commitment to excellence in orthopedic care continues through our on-site imaging services. We provide both X-Ray and MRI Imaging so you won’t need to schedule a visit at another facility. All AOA Imaging Staff are members of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. X-Ray Imaging X-rays are typically taken the same day of your visit. Depending on the area being x-rayed you may be asked to change into shorts or a gown. Keys, phones, and any metal is to be removed from the body before the x-ray begins. AOA utilizes digital and computerized x-ray equipment for specialized views of your bones. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) What is MRI imaging? MRI is multiple image slices and detail of bones, soft tissues, tendons, and ligaments. The exam uses radio waves and magnetic fields to create images of the soft tissues of the body. These images are linked to a computer so the doctor and or radiologist can interpret them. Advanced Orthopedic Associates uses a wide bore MRI that is open on both ends. Our MRI is accredited by the IAC. How is MRI performed? You will be asked to lie on a table and the MRI technologist will position you comfortably. You will be asked to keep the part being examined as still as possible. How long will the exam take? A complete MRI exam takes about 30 minutes depending on the body part. What do I do during the exam? Nothing. Just lie on the exam table and relax. The MRI technologist will play music for you. Some people fall asleep during the exam! How do I prepare for an MRI? You can eat, drink and take regularly prescribed medication prior to the exam. All patients should take their pain medication and or anxiety medications 30 minutes prior to being scanned to avoid any involuntary movements that would distort the MRI images. You will be asked to change into a gown and remove any jewelry, keys, pocket knives, hearing aids, or any other metal before approaching the machine. Electronic or metal implants require a card with MRI safety info to be cleared before you can be scanned and may also need to be turned off by the Physician who placed them prior to the MRI. We are not able to perform an MRI on anyone with a pacemaker, aneurysm clips, or a pregnant patient at this facility.
