As a dermatology clinic, we care for patients of all ages including infants and teenagers. Skin conditions are one of the earliest concerns a child faces as early as within the first few months of life. Our specialists here at Edgebrook Dermatology are able to provide treatment for these concerns, such as eczema, rashes, skin allergies, and more. If no concerns arise in the earliest years of life, it may then be time to see a dermatologist around the ages of 12-15 in the puberty stages of life. This is when hormonal acne becomes a battle, making this time a prime opportunity to begin annual dermatology skin screenings. Dermatologists can also examine moles, especially when any skin cancer history exists in the family or the moles look suspicious. Some skin conditions are more prevalent in childhood and dissipate into adulthood, but other conditions worsen over time. This is why scheduling a dermatology screening is recommended as soon as a concern begins, and any of our expert providers will be ready to help your child in need. Contact us at (815) 229-9333 to schedule.

Botox is the number one cosmetic procedure in the USA! This safe and effective muscle relaxing product has been around since the 1960's and has been used to smooth wrinkles for over 20 years with great success. Botox is typically used to smooth forehead wrinkles, 11's (in between eyebrows) and crows feet, but it can also control underarm sweating, help lift or drop eyebrows, and even help to reduce the symptoms of migraine headaches! You don't have to wait to see wrinkles to use Botox. Studies over time have shown that using a small amount of Botox in your early 20's and 30's can actually prevent wrinkles from occurring before they even form by controlling excessive muscle movements. Botox lasts for several months and is an affordable, minimally-invasive way to give you a young, happy and relaxed look.

What is Dermal Filler? Deep wrinkles and lines that are visible even at rest are best treated by "filling them in" with a facial filler such as Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Voluma, or Juvederm Volbella. Each formula varies in density to cater to specific areas of the face, providing a very natural and targeted result. Dermal fillers are fillers that are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally-occurring sugar molecule found in our bodies made to retain moisture. Since our bodies become naturally less capable of producing HA over time, a hyaluronic-based filler allows for temporary filling to restore a youthful appearance and face structure. Where Can It Be Used? Fillers are especially useful for filling in and plumping up areas of the face that have lost volume over the years, but also for areas where we feel we may be lacking or desiring volume that was not there to begin with. The most common areas we inject fillers are the cheeks, smile lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines---corners of the nose to the chin), pucker lines/vertical lines above the top lip, or in the lips. What Can I Expect? Filler will define, accentuate, soften, plump, and hydrate areas in need. Fillers can be extremely subtle or more noticeable, as each patient's goals are different, and each face shape is entirely unique. We will always consult on your desired results prior to injecting to determine the exact placement and how much product will be necessary, customizing to each individual. Patients can expect to use anywhere between 1-6 syringes per area depending on age, severity of the concerns, and desired outcome. For perspective, one syringe of filler is only 1/5 of a teaspoon, relative to the size of a blueberry. So if you hear that multiple syringes are necessary, do not fear, as this is still quite minimal in terms of the expected changes! Filler injections can feel a little discomforting, so we start with a topical numbing prior to injections. Some swelling and minimal bruising can occur and is most common. This can last a few days up to 2 full weeks, but is usually coverable with makeup or will subside quickly with proper before and after care. Depending on the type of formula used, patients can expect up to 12-24 months of lasting results, but it can be built upon at any time.

PicoSure (PFLA) Restoration Other lasers promise to treat wrinkles, acne scars, and blemishes, but only PicoSure with Skin Cell Activation can deliver impressive results WITHOUT the pain, discomfort, and downtime of other procedures. The PicoSure non-ablative laser, our most popular treatment laser treatment, uses soundwaves to resurface the skin, targeting pigmentation, texture, freckles, and fine lines in the face, neck, chest, and more. Pico is the less intense version of Erbium, that results in fantastic resurfacing. This option is usually best for patients with busier lifestyles since the downtime is almost non-existent, but more sessions may be necessary to achieve desired results. Erbium Fractional Resurfacing This technique is your answer if you want dramatically different skin in terms of texture, brown spots, and wrinkle appearance. A fractionated laser is used to ablate pinpoint areas of your skin, causing your skin to "remake" itself, smoothing wrinkles, eliminating brown spots, and boosting collagen. The anti-aging results are absolutely astonishing! If you can swing a few days of downtime, this treatment is for you.

Tired of shaving and waxing your body? Sick of plucking those stubborn chin and upper lip hairs for them to grow back the very next day? Fed up with those painful, ingrown hairs ruining your bikini season? We can help! Laser hair reduction is a very effective way to permanently reduce the appearance of dark hair anywhere on your body. Our state-of-the-art lasers are so advanced that a series of treatments completed regularly will result in permanent hair reduction that will leave you wondering why you didn't start sooner! Number of treatments will vary patient to patient, so having a consultation to review your medical history and background will help us determine your plan. With each session, the hairs will become thinner, softer, and lighter, weakening until they've died off. Since the laser attacks the hair follicle by targeting the pigment of the hair, it is important to avoid sun exposure during this process (making the fall and winter months most ideal for your laser series!). Treatment feels similar to a hot rubberband snapping sensation, but is usually well-tolerated, and treatments sessions are typically quick. We can treat almost any area, including the legs, bikini region, arms, underarms, upper lip, chin, lower back, and more. We'll take you from shaving every other day, to once a week, to once a month... to entirely forgetting there was ever hair in that location! FREE yourself of monthly waxes, razor burn, and wasted time on grooming. Ask us about laser treatment today.

The request to have tattoos removed occurs regularly and always for different reasons. Whether you need to be tattoo-free for employment, you're joining the armed forces, you have tattoo regret, you aren't happy with how your tattoo turned out, you're experiencing a major life change and need to start fresh or you've simply changed your mind, we've got you covered! Regardless of your reason, our top of the line laser center can fade all ink colors safely and effectively, leaving you with a fresh canvas upon which you can print your next masterpiece...or start over with a clean slate. Laser tattoo removal uses heat to destroy the ink particles, exploding them into tiny fragments that can flush easily out of your system. Number of treatments can vary between 6-12 treatments, or potentially even more. This will depend on the color, age, type of ink used, depth of the ink, and the skin type of the patient. When looking to break up ink pigment, we have to be cautious to not harm the skin pigment. This is why being in the skin’s fairest state possible is extremely important. The tattoo will slowly lighten with each session. Each treatment is performed every 6-8 weeks, allowing time for the skin to heal over and for any broken down ink to flush out before we can continue distributing more heat. The healing process is very similar to getting a tattoo in the first place—the area will be bandaged and a bit sore for a few days and need to stay out of the sun. Tattoo removal is usually considered painful, but topical numbing at the beginning of the session can help to ease that discomfort. To find out how many treatments your tattoo will take, as well as determine cost, sizing, and go over any other important information, set up a FREE consultation today.
