I had a frustrating experience and would not recommend this location based on my experience with its pricing, insurance billing, and communication. At the beginning of the year, I paid $504 for an eye exam, glasses, and what I understood would be six months of contact lenses after insurance. I agreed to purchase the glasses and six months' worth of contacts because I was told that $504 would be my total cost with the eye exam.
The next day, I received a text saying I had been undercharged because my insurance benefit was supposedly only $180. I was told I would need to pay an additional $178 to receive six months of contacts or accept only three months of contacts instead. This was confusing because it did not match what I had been told when I made the purchase. I repeatedly asked for an updated or itemized receipt, or some sort of invoice with an explanation showing how the charges and insurance benefits were calculated. I was told they cannot provide me an updated invoice or itemized receipt and was told to call or come into the store. When I did call and questioned the insurance coverage and amounts, I was told they needed to ask the manager and I did not receive a clear itemized breakdown that allowed me to reconcile the amounts.
I also asked via email that the claim not be submitted to my insurance and that I would pay out of pocket instead. Despite that request, the claim was submitted with my insurance. When I later reviewed my explanation of benefits, it showed that the insurance company paid the location $300.00 and listed my patient responsibility as $283.25. Those figures did not match the $180 insurance benefit I had been told about or the $504 I had paid initially during my visit. I contacted the location again and explained that the amounts on my EOB did not match the amounts I had been given. I was told again that a manager would need to review it or that I would need to come into the store for an explanation. Ultimately, I accepted three months of contacts instead of six months and received $40 cash back after disputing the amount charged for contacts.
I'm not sure whether the conflicting amounts resulted from a billing error, an insurance-processing issue, or a misunderstanding, but I was never given a clear written explanation that reconciled the original receipt, the additional amount requested, and the insurance coverage that matched my EOB. The inconsistent information and difficulty obtaining an itemized explanation made the experience extremely frustrating. Based on my experience, I would not purchase glasses or contacts from this location again.
