I signed up for the define class because I have been lifting at the gym for four years now and was interested in Barre. They offer a ONE TIME first class free. I want to preface that I never once showed interest in getting a full membership.
After I put my contact info in online they kept texting me with the same exact questions and it was getting really annoying. I ended up blocking the number prior to even going to the class.
I decided to go to the class anyways but that was a mistake. I got there and the instructor (who is also the owner) showed me around. The class was fine it was honestly not challenging and I don’t think I’ll feel it tomorrow. Instead of utilizing rep counts she counts up to ten which can leave you uneven because you may have subconsciously gone faster on one side than the other.
My biggest issue was after the class. She cornered me and told me that I have zero core strength and my form was terrible. To reiterate I have been lifting for years and feel that I am very strong. My core strength is something I am proud of so this really offended me. I am a non confrontational person so I just said okay after she was saying these things to me. After she insulted me for five minutes she then pushed me to get a membership. There is always a place for criticism when it comes to lifting but consensual and constructive criticism is what needs to take place. I never once asked for this and if she had such an issue with my form she could’ve corrected it during the class. (There were about five other people in the class)
In addition to all of this she seemed offended that I was only attending the ONE TIME class once and that I was clearly not interested in a membership.
I don’t think using fear tactics and being rude to potential customers is a good business model. I’m a pretty sensitive person and this experience really upset me.
I am also using a different email to make this review because I feel uncomfortable with them reaching out to me

I had a 6:00 AM class here. Parking in this area is very difficult, and even though I arrived at 6:03, the doors were already locked. I was left outside in 27-degree weather with no way to get in.I’ve been to many other studios before, and even if the door was locked, there was at least a doorbell or some way to contact someone. No one acknowledged me despite the freezing temperature. It’s hard to believe that the negative reviews are being taken seriously. Adding a simple doorbell wouldn’t be that hard.I really hope the studio is as friendly as some reviews say, but unfortunately that wasn’t my experience

Pure Barre Evanston is so great. Instructors are all excellent. Workout is fantastic. I especially appreciate what a great community it is - so many regulars, friendly local folks who are happy to see each other - and how the studio supports local charities as well.

Nice studio, staff is always friendly and makes an effort to know you by name. Came back recently after a while away and really enjoyed how they switched up the work outs. Highly recommend!
