  I’m really disappointed with how my cancellation was handled. I contacted the studio very shortly after finding out I was being laid off and explained that I needed to cancel my membership for financial reasons. I tried to communicate through text and email, but the manager was unavailable/on vacation, and it took quite a while before I could get a clear answer about the cancellation. I was encouraged to freeze my membership instead, but I explained that I had no idea how long it would take me to find another job and therefore wanted to cancel. From the conversations I had with staff, I came away believing that my August payment would be my final payment. I did not realize I would later be charged another approximately $200 for the following month. If that was required under the agreement, I really wish it had been explained more clearly when I first requested to cancel. I also repeatedly asked to communicate through email or text because I was not consistently able to take phone calls at the time. I found it frustrating that so much of the communication still revolved around phone calls and voicemails when I was actively trying to get written clarification. The situation became even more frustrating when my remaining credits expired before I could use them. I understand businesses have cancellation policies, but I think there should be clearer communication and more understanding when someone is unexpectedly laid off and is trying to reduce expenses. I actually liked the studio itself, but this experience changed my opinion of the business. Even if I were doing very well financially in the future, I would probably choose a different Pilates studio because of how this situation was handled. I also think cancellation terms, final billing dates, and notice requirements should be explained much more clearly when people sign up. I really think cancellations and billing details should be clearly manageable in the app. Customers shouldn’t have to chase down a manager or rely on phone calls just to understand when their membership ends or whether they’ll be charged again.
