Breast

Breast augmentation involves the placement of silicone or saline implants into the breast to increase the size of the breast by one or more cup sizes. Patients can customize their procedure by choosing the size, shape, texture and placement of the implants. The breast augmentation procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes less than an hour. It can also be combined with other procedures, such as a breast lift, to maximize results.

Gradually over time, a woman’s breasts begin to loose their natural elasticity and shape. Age, pregnancy, weight, gravity, and breast-feeding are all contributing factors. Fortunately, breast lift surgery exists to combat these elements by raising and reshaping the breasts towards a more youthful position and appearance, and in the process, helping to restore a more natural, well-proportioned figure. The Mastopexy procedure is ideal for women unhappy with or tired of their sagging breasts, who express feelings of discomfort over one breast sagging lower than another, or who feel that their nipples are lacking symmetry. Breast lifts are also used to correct nipples and areolae, the area around the nipple, that appear to stretched or enlarged.

For a women’s whose breasts are naturally large, the weight of these large breasts may lead to a number of physical and physiological problems. These include neck and back pains, irritation of the skin from the bra strap, skeletal deformities, and problems with breathing. Naturally large breasts may also cause self-consciousness in some women, preventing them from exercising and living an active lifestyle. For many women, breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammoplasty, provides benefits to both physical and mental health by surgically achieving breasts more in proportion to the rest of a woman’s body.

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure done to restore the size and shape of a woman’s breast, especially after a mastectomy. Breast reconstruction can be done either by using implants or the patient’s own tissue to replace the lost breast. When the areola and nipples are also removed during the patient’s mastectomy, the reconstruction may be completed using breast “mound” reconstruction.

Roughly 40% of the male population is estimated to have over-developed or enlarged breasts. Potential causes of this condition are hormonal imbalance, obesity, hereditary, steroid use, certain medications, cancer, impaired liver function, or other less common medical issues. Male breast reduction surgery, or gynecomastia, is good solution for men that deal with enlarged breasts, and the surgery not only reduces breast size, but flattens the chest and enhances the natural chest muscles. During the consultation process with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, they will be able to discuss goals and outcomes and also determine if the patient is a suitable candidate for make breast reduction surgery.

Body

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) flattens the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, while at the same time tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall, restoring a firm and toned appearance often unachievable through diet and exercise alone. The surgery is particularly relevant to women who have recently undergone pregnancy, or individuals with excess abdominal skin due to drastic weight loss. A tummy tuck, however, is not an alternative to losing weight through diet and exercise.

With minimal scarring and life-changing results, liposuction has become one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures undergone within the United States today. It the preferred method for removing fat from areas of the abdomen such as the thighs, hips, and buttocks, fat from the lower arm, and fat from areas of the face and neck. It is important to note that liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss from diet and exercise, and instead should be employed only as a last resort to fat accumulation unresponsive to these methods. However, so long as patients maintain a healthy weight, they can expect their results to be permanent.

Brachioplasty, or an arm lift, is a surgical procedure done to reduce both excess skin that sags downward and localized fat pockets in the upper arm region. A Brachioplasty also tightens the underlying supportive tissue that defines the contour of the upper arm to give it a smoother appearance. The upper arm may droop and sag due to aging, heredity, and/or extreme fluctuations in weight. When an individual has reached this phase, the upper arm may already be resistant to exercise. A person may be a good candidate for brachioplasty if the underside of the upper arms appears loose and is sagging due to excess fat and skin.

A medial thigh lift is done to reshape the thigh by removing extra skin, and sometimes fat, to achieve smoother skin and improve the contour of the lower body and thighs. A surgical thigh lift is recommended for patients who have not achieved their desired body even with weight loss and fitness efforts. The purpose of a thigh lift is not to remove excess fat in the thighs as this condition can be treated with liposuction alone if the skin is still elastic enough to naturally conform itself to the contour of the body. In such cases when skin elasticity is poor, a thigh lift may be done in combination with liposuction to achieve better results. As with any cosmetic procedure, during consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons at Twin City Plastic Surgery, they will be able to discuss if this procedure is right for you.

Face

Facelift is a surgical procedure that aims to treat sagging, wrinkled, and drooping skin on the face and/or the neck. This procedure may be done alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as a forehead lift and nose reshaping, to achieve better results. An individual will benefit more from a facelift if aging has made his or her face saggy and wrinkled; stress could also be a factor in the formation of folds in the neck and deep creases between the mouth and the nose. A facelift repairs the visible signs of aging, giving the patient a more refreshed and younger-looking appearance.

The appearance of a person’s chin is an important component of the overall facial structure, which is why more and more people opt to have chin augmentation surgery. In a chin augmentation, the chin can be enhanced to bring symmetry and balance to the face. The surgery can make the chin bigger or longer when compared to the structure of the nose. This procedure is done by either inserting facial implants or by reshaping the bones of the face and moving them into the desired position. You can be a good candidate for a chin augmentation if you have a weak or receding chin, yet still have the ability to bite or chew normally. During your initial consultation with one of our trusted plastic surgeons at Twin City Plastic Surgery, the procedure will be discussed in detail, including its risks and side effects.

A brow lift is recommended when the upper area of the face begins to appear saggy or aged. This procedure helps to create a more youthful appearance by raising drooping eyelids, reducing wrinkles on the forehead, nose, and between the eyes, and smoothing out the vertical creases between the eyebrows and on the forehead. The best candidates for brow lift are ones who want to prevent or reduce signs of aging.

Eyelid surgery is used to correct puffiness or droopiness in both the upper and lower eyelids that generally cause people to look aged and/or fatigued. It can also be used to remove fine lines or wrinkles in the lower lid. In extreme cases, a blepharoplasty can be used to correct eyelids or bags that interfere with vision. Eyelid surgery generally removes excess fat or skin from both eyelids and helps both men and women achieve a more youthful and energized look.

Rhinoplasty is the surgical reshaping of the nose. It can make the nose appear smaller or larger, change the angle of the nose, alter the nose tip, and correct any indentations or bumps in the nose. Most rhinoplasty patients simply want a nose that is in harmonious balance with the rest of the face. However, this surgery is also done on patients with structural problems in the nose that impede their breathing and cause chronic congestion. Rhinoplasty offers permanent results, although subsequent injury or other environmental factors could have an effect on the appearance of the nose. This cosmetic surgery is only recommended when the nose is already fully developed, which usually occurs by the time a person reaches 15 to 16 in females and 17 to 18 in males.

Otoplasty is the reshaping of the outer ear to correct deformities, which may be a result of a childhood defect or injury to make the ears appear normal. This type of surgical procedure can either be done as a reconstructive or a cosmetic procedure. One common case in cosmetic otoplasty is the pinning back of prominent ears to prevent them from “sticking out”; this is an elective procedure since protruding ears do not have any affect on the person’s ability to hear. Meanwhile, building up the outer ear after it has been damaged by injury is what is considered a reconstructive procedure.

Injectables

The board-certified plastic surgeons at Twin City Plastic Surgery in Bloomington, IL have over 30-years combined experience treating patients with BOTOX® Cosmetic to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as frown lines and deep wrinkles. Utilized in minimal amounts for cosmetic purposes, the toxin found in BOTOX® is injected into the facial muscle of the treated area, causing a blockage in the impulse of that specific muscle; doing so weakens and relaxes the muscle, which prevents the appearance of unwanted lines on the face.

Dermal fillers are products that rejuvenate the skin by eliminating and improving the appearance of wrinkles. They can also enhance the lips and raise scar depressions. Dermal fillers can be made of hyaluronic acid, collagen, calcium, or hydroxyl apatite. Fillers such as Juvederm®, Voluma™ XC, Radiesse® Volumizing filler, Belotero Balance®, and Sculptra® Aesthetic can be used to bring back the youthfulness of aging skin by filling wrinkles and saggy skin.

Get rid of your double chin with KYBELLA KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine and is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” The board-certified plastic surgeons at Twin City Plastic Surgery can consult with you to find out if you are a candidate for this injection. Generally, KYBELLA® may be right for you if: You are bothered (unhappy, self-conscious, embarrassed) by fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness. You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are. You don’t want to have surgery. You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. This acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® will destroy fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in mass under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal. More information about KYBELLA® can be found at https://www.mykybella.com.

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for manually exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Using a blade and a delicate touch, the surface of the skin is abraded using light feathering strokes. Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. It is also a great treatment for patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the blood stream. Dermaplaning is particularly a great choice for those patients who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair reveals a smoother and brighter complexion.

Microneedling is a nonsurgical technique that is intended to improve skin texture by reducing the “crepey” appearance, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, and diminishing the hyperpigmentation of skin. This is a form of collagen induction created by a mechanical force delivered to the dermis. It also is useful for improving acne pock marks and can weld stretch marks together by creating collagen bridging. The process utilizes a power hand-piece to create tiny channels into the dermis of the skin which initiates the body’s natural healing process to create collagen and elastin. Where can this technique be utilized? The power hand piece can be applied to the entire face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs and abdomen, typically where the skin is structurally weak, which usually is in areas that have stretch marks, contour deformities such as divots, and wide depressed scars. One of the added benefits of microneedling is diminished pigmentation, even though it is not used as a skin resurfacing technique. Microneedling can reduce the vertical lines that form around the mouth, as well as reduce appearance of small capillary vessels in the skin given the improved dermal thickness. How many treatments are required? The microneedling technique of creating channels in the dermis is very similar to the technology of the Fraxel laser, which utilizes a thermal injury mechanism but at a much lower price point. Just as the laser takes a series of treatments so does the microneedling technique – anywhere from three to six sessions depending on severity. During a consultation, we can define how many sessions are right for the patient. Once the final result is achieved, we generally recommend one to two sessions a year for maintenance of the outcome. What downtime can someone expect? After the initial session you can expect to be red for a period of up to five days, but you can wear mineral makeup starting the next day to hide the color. Many patients can expect to be able to go out to dinner the following night of the procedure. People may experience some light burning, tightness, and mild flaking. Noticeable difference in the texture of the skin will occur within a couple of weeks. An important note for someone who has undergone a laser technique: due to the thermal nature of the injury patients may experience more pain, swelling and redness than a patient who has undergone microneedling; results tend to be pretty similar between both procedures. The main difference is the cost for the laser treatment versus the microneedling treatment. The technique of microneedling is a concept that has been evolving for over ten years. Initially, a simple hand roller with tiny short needles was employed and has now progressed to the current electric hand pieces with adjustable needle lengths to customize the depth for each patient. Ideally, the needle should penetrate no deeper than the epidermal–dermal junction. During the first pass of the session, hyaluronic acid is driven into the skin to improve the hydration and quality of the dermis. Remember, microneedling is a process, but results can vary depending on who is performing the technique. Ultimately, microneedling can become a phenomenal non-invasive addition to a long-term regimen for virtually anyone who desires to maintain a youthful & vibrant appearance.

Vein Therapy with Nd:YAG laser “Spider Veins” are small twisting and turning vessels that may appear red, purple, or blue in color, and can be seen through the skin as they are very near the skin surface. They can be annoying because spider veins form in highly visible places such as the face and legs. Fortunately, we have procedures at Twin City Plastic Surgery that will remove your different vascular lesions, not only spider veins on the legs and face, but also large telangiectasias, venous lakes, and hemangiomas. Treatment This method uses an intense beam of light to target vascular lesion directly. When the light energy is converted to heat, it causes the lesion to collapse and fade away. The treatment may require more than one laser session and does not affect any of the surrounding tissue. Over time, the vein will be completely absorbed by the body and disappear from sight. Recovery from Spider Vein Removal During your recovery, you may be required to wear supportive garments to help your legs heal. The treated areas will appear bruised and will feel cramped for a day or two after treatment. This discomfort is usually tolerable and will not require prescription medication. You may continue with your usual activities after a few days, although total recovery time varies from patient to patient.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Intense pulsed light (IPL) has grown more popular as a treatment for various skin imperfections such as age spots and sun spots, as well as vascular conditions like spider veins. This cosmetic treatment uses a high-intensity light to penetrate below the skin’s surface where melanin creates brown spots and broken capillaries form. IPL also stimulates collagen production, so it helps to firm up the skin. Good candidates for an IPL treatment are those who have light skin complexions and are plagued with sun damage, other skin issues, some skin laxity, and broken capillaries. IPL will treat vascular lesions such as port wine stains, rosacea, spider angiomas, and red thread veins in the legs. Aside from removing freckles and age spots, IPL can also remove fine lines and wrinkles on the face. The IPL Procedure Although it is not a laser treatment, IPL works upon the same principles as lasers, using light energy that is then absorbed by particular color cells in the skin. When the light is converted into heat energy, it damages the specific target cells, causing their destruction and the disappearance of these certain skin conditions. The IPL treatment is often called a “lunchtime” treatment since it only takes about 30 to 45 minutes. It doesn’t require any downtime; the patient can return to work immediately after the procedure. During your treatment, you will be required to wear protective eyewear to protect your eyes from the light source. Most patients report minimal discomfort throughout the procedure, likening it to a light pinch or snap from a rubber band. Recovery from the IPL Procedure After treatment, your skin may become a little sore and slightly pink at the treatment locations. This mild sunburn sensation may last a few days, however these side effects can be alleviated through the application of a cold compress or post-procedure creams available as recommended by our aesthetician at Oasis Medical Spa & Wellness.

Unwanted facial and body hair is a common problem for both men and women, however it is a problem that can be solved with laser hair reduction at Twin City Plastic Surgery and Oasis Medical Spa & Wellness in Bloomington, IL. This procedure removes unwanted facial and body hair for those who are tired of regular shaving, tweezing, and waxing by using highly concentrated light beams to penetrate into the hair follicles and destroy the hair. Many patients choose this hair removal method over others because lasers are more precise and accurate and only target dark, coarse hair without harming the surrounding skin. Laser technology also offers rapid results, as every pulse treats many hairs. Even small areas such as the hairs in the upper lip can be removed in less than a minute. Laser Hair Removal Procedure Before undergoing laser treatment, hairs on areas that require treatment will be trimmed or shaved down to a few millimeters above the surface of the skin. Our aesthetician, a certified laser technician, will adjust the laser equipment according to the thickness, location, and color of your hair. Your skin color is also an important factor that is considered when delivering laser treatment. During the procedure, you will wear appropriate eye gear in order to protect your eyes from the light source. Your skin will also be protected by applying a cool gel or using a special cooling device. Our aesthetician will then deliver a light pulse to the treatment site and monitor your skin for any unusual reactions. After the procedure, any discomfort can be alleviated with ice packs or anti-inflammatory lotions and creams. You may need a follow-up treatment four to six weeks following your initial session. Recovery from Laser Hair Reduction It is normal for your skin to feel sunburned for one to two days following your laser hair reduction procedure. You may apply cool compresses andLaser Hair Removal Bloomington skin moisturizers to help ease the burned sensation. Unless your skin is blistering, you can wear makeup the day after your procedure. The hair on the treated areas will start falling out over the next month. During this time, always wear an effective sunscreen to prevent any discoloration of your skin. Microdermabrasion utilizing the Silk Peel Dermalinfusion technology is a non-invasive, crystal-free skin rejuvenation procedure that delivers topical skin care products while simultaneously evacuating and exfoliating the skin. Many patients prefer microdermabrasion over other options because the procedure works on all skin types, including skin with hyper-pigmentation, acne, scarring, sun damage, dehydration, enlarged pores, excessive oil, dry flaky skin, or fine lines and wrinkles. Six to eight treatments are recommended, and the licensed aesthetician at Twin City Plastic Surgery and Oasis Medical Spa & Wellness in Bloomington, IL can decide the best treatment plan geared specifically for your goals and needs. Silk Peel’s diamond tip hand piece exfoliates damaged skin cells, evenly abrading the top layer of the skin in order to deliver targeted formulations to the epidermis of the skin, all done without damaging the skin’s natural structure. Recovery from Microdermabrasion Unlike dermabrasion, which requires lidocaine during the procedure and a longer recovery time afterwards, microdermabrasion comes with minimal downtime and does not require any anesthesia. Immediately after the procedure, the treated area will appear pink and may feel tight and dry, as if you have been sunburned. These side effects may last about 24 hours following your microdermabrasion treatment. Applying moisturizer can help, and our aesthetician will advise you on which type of makeup may be allowed on the face for the first 24 hours after the procedure. Rejuvenate your skin today! When trying to address the effects of aging on the face and neck, many people are wary of surgery. That’s why more and more people opt for non-invasive options such as chemical peels for facial rejuvenation. Chemical peels use a chemical solution to initiate peeling of dead skin on the face. By peeling away this layer of dead skin, younger, smoother skin is exposed. Chemical peels can be used on the face, hands, or the neck to reduce fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging and excessive sun exposure, and they can also reduce the appearance of mild scars, age spots, freckles, or dark patches, and can be used to treat certain types of acne. Types of Chemical Peels There are three different types of SkinMedica chemical peels offered at Oasis Medical Spa & Wellness, which all differ depending on how deeply the chemical is intended to penetrate the skin. Illuminize Peel. These are the most superficial and mildest chemical peels, and can be used on all skin types. The SkinMedica Illuminize peels utilize salicylic acid to rejuvenate the skin by improving its clarity, color and texture. For many people, it can be utilized before a big event to make their skin “Red Carpet Ready” by increasing its glow and radiance. Vitalize Peel. Comprised of both lactic and salicylic acid, along with a proprietary Vitalize Retinol Solution, this peel penetrates the the skin more deeply than the Illuminize, making it the most popular SkinMedica peel at Oasis Medical Spa & Wellness. With minimal downtime, it addresses visible signs of mild to moderate skin imperfections including the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and melasma. Rejuvenize Peel. As the strongest SkinMedica peel that produces very compelling results with moderate irritation, the Rejuvenize peel also has a combination of salicylic and lactic acid, along with SkinMedica’s proprietary Vitalize Retinol Solution. At a higher percentage of each peeling agent, visible signs of moderate to severe skin imperfections including appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and melasma are addressed with lasting results.
