The human body uses fat for a variety of reasons. It is fuel for the body and it provides warmth. Fat also has many uses in the world of cosmetic treatments. Transferring fat from one area to another can produce fuller looking lips, add volume to sunken scarred areas, or it can be used in breast augmentation procedures. The uses for fat in the field of plastic surgery are practically endless. Using a natural filler, such as a patient’s body fat, can help produce the best possible results from a cosmetic surgery procedure. Autologous Fat Transfer Fat transfers, also known as fat grafting, is a very popular procedure since it removes fat from a location where it is not needed, or wanted, and used to add volume elsewhere. The techniques used to perform this procedure can vary but the end results are the same: a fuller, better looking body region. Often times, the fat is harvested from an area using liposuction techniques. In liposuction, a small cannula is used to loosen and suck away the fat that will be used in the augmentation procedure. The fat must then be processed for use in the new area. It is cleaned and purified to make it safe for reinjection. While fat transfers may sound like an involved process, for the patient this process is smooth and minimally invasive. To ensure that the results are optimum and long lasting, multiple treatments may be necessary.

Lipoplasty, or suction assisted lipectomy (commonly referred to as Liposuction) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat stubborn fatty deposits that the gym and regular diet haven’t been able to address. Liposuction is an effective treatment that can be used to target very specific areas such as your abdomen/mid-section, hips and/or thighs, waistline, or neck. The procedure permanently removes fat cells leaving the body contour you have been striving for. Why Liposuction? Fat cells can rear their ugly head just about anywhere on a person’s body. While diet and exercise are the best option for maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle, these fat cells will often resist your best efforts to rid yourself of them. Liposuction is an excellent option for permanently removing these fat cells and getting you the body you’ve been working toward. What Liposuction Treats Love handles and muffin tops: The abdomen and waist tend to gain weight before other areas of the body and tend to hold it the longest. Liposuction can target these areas and create a slender mid-section allowing for those low rise pants or a great bathing suit body. Double Chins: Since each person carries fat differently, even otherwise fit individuals can suffer from a double chin. Surgery can remove this excess fat and create a beautiful, strong profile. Hips And Thighs: Women in particular tend to build up fatty deposits in this area. Having liposuction can reduce the fat build up, improve the contour of the leg, and as a result even improve the appearance of the buttocks. Post pregnancy: A woman goes through a lot of physical changes during a pregnancy due to hormonal changes and weight gain. There is no guarantee that her body will return to the exact condition it was in prior to pregnancy. For those women who continue to hold a few extra pounds after pregnancy, liposuction can help. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, it is for people who are otherwise of a normal healthy weight and have trouble areas that need to be addressed. Under these conditions, liposuction is amazing for helping with that last five pounds or to get that slender shape you’ve been working toward. Our Atlanta board certified cosmetic surgeons also offer tummy tucks as another exceptional procedure to achieving your desired body. What To Expect From Liposuction Surgery Liposuction is intended for men and women who are struggling with persistent fatty deposits that diet and exercise have been unable to target. There are many reasons for these stubborn deposits such as heredity. For those people who are of a normal weight and in good health, liposuction may be the only option for smoothing these fatty areas for good. Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure which is performed by making a small incision in the skin allowing for the insertion of a tube called a cannula. The plastic surgeon moves the cannula throughout the fatty deposit loosening the tissue and sucking the fat out through the tube. This leaves the trouble area smooth and in proportion to the rest of the body. In most cases, once the healing process is complete, the skin adjusts to the new shape of the area and the stubborn fatty area is forever changed. Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists is proud to offer the safest and most effective liposuction procedure available. If you want to read up more on what to expect from your surgery, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons offers more information regarding liposuction and many other procedures at their website. Being educated on your upcoming plastic surgery ensures realistic expectations and increases your likelihood of being satisfied with your final results. Being educated on a potential cosmetic surgery is the best tool in deciding if a procedure is right for you!

In recent years, reports of breast implants potentially causing health problems in some individuals have come to light due to increased media attention. Breast implant illness (BII) is a constellation of health symptoms attributed to an inflammatory reaction to breast implants in some patients. Our practice is committed to safety first and foremost. We have extensive experience performing explant surgery with and without breast lifts as well as with fat transfer for volume enhancement. Our plastic surgeons have completed over 200 explant surgeries this past year alone. We have embarked on our own analysis of data in an effort to enhance women’s health and shed some light on an issue that concerns many. While further scientific research is needed on the connection between breast implants and systemic illnesses, Atlanta Plastic and Reconstructive Specialists is committed to helping all breast augmentation patients — both new patients and those previously treated — who are unhappy with their implants or their size, or who have severe capsular contractures, failed devices, or malposition. We also seek to help those who believe their health symptoms are related to BII. Symptoms of Breast Implant Illness (BII) The plastic surgeons at Atlanta Plastic and Reconstructive Specialists meet with each patient individually to discuss their concerns regarding their breasts. While there is no diagnostic testing specific to BII, our plastic surgeons take patients’ concerns very seriously and do their utmost to help women restore their health and wellbeing. Many women have few symptoms with breast implants, but we also acknowledge that some do. Listening and understanding is a priority. Some (but not all) possible symptoms of BII, as reported in the literature, include the following: Muscle pain and weakness Fatigue and lack of energy Chest pain Hair loss Headaches Chills, fever, night sweats Cognitive dysfunction (e.g., memory loss, difficulty concentrating) Chronic inflammation Numbness Shortness of breath Photosensitivity Dry eye Body odor Depression Low libido Vertigo Yeast infection Gastrointestinal problems Poor sleep and/or insomnia Ear ringing Pancreatitis Back and neck pain Skin rashes Frequent urination Liver or kidney dysfunction Irritable bowel or bladder Headaches and dizziness Symptoms of hypo- or hyper-thyroid Symptoms of hypo- or hyper-adrenal The Breast Explant Procedure There are several approaches to breast explantation. We strive to meet the highest standards of care by performing detailed clinical exams and full medical inquiries. We are your doctors, and your health is a priority. We often ask that you have had significant screening by your primary care team. Furthermore, we may ask you do additional imaging laboratory testing and preoperative workups based on your history. We want each patient to be as healthy as possible for the upcoming surgery. The first method involves simply removing the implant, while the second method removes the implant and capsule that holds the implant. A third method is the total capsulectomy technique. Total capsulectomy essentially means “as one” and it involves removing the implant while it is still inside the capsule, so the two are removed as one. The total capsulectomy technique is the preferred choice for explanting a known ruptured silicone device to prevent contamination of the pocket and or field as free silicone in tissue can lead to granulomas. Many studies are looking into the extent of capsulectomy and studying the resolution of BII symptoms. Breast explant surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. APRS manages a unique, fully accredited surgery center of explant excellence, having cared for hundreds of explant patients with a board-certifed anesthesiologist always present for one-to-one care. Incisions are usually made along the lower fold of the breast, or around the areola. In some cases, breast lift is performed to address loose skin that stretched out to accommodate the implant. Returning your breast to a beautiful shape is important and takes experience. Other techniques (e.g., breast reduction, fat transfer to the breast) can be performed to create an aesthetically pleasing shape and appearance after breast implant removal. Drains will be put in place to prevent fluid accumulation (seroma), swelling and settling of tissues. The drains will remain in place for a week. To learn more about breast implant illness or breast explant surgery, contact Atlanta Plastic and Reconstructive Specialists today. Trust your results to the experience of our surgeons.

Millions of women seek breast augmentation surgery each year to enhance smaller breasts, correct asymmetry, or to simply boost their self-esteem. With the popularity of this surgery at an all-time high, there are many options for women in regard to technique and implant type. Our practice helps our breast augmentation Atlanta patients get the fuller, perkier chest they’ve dreamed of. Mammaplasty is a surgical treatment where by the volume and form of a woman’s breast tissue is enhanced using implants. Because each woman’s body is different, each surgery is individualized to fit each woman’s body type and end goals. During your first consultation with our team, we’ll review your current health status and discuss which surgical techniques will be most effective to help you achieve your goals. For women who have sagging breasts due to age or child bearing, a breast lift procedure may be discussed as well. Why Choose Breast Augmentation Surgery? There are many benefits to women both physically and psychologically. One of the biggest benefits of a breast enhancement procedure is the boost to self-confidence. Breasts are a vital part of the child bearing process, they are uniquely feminine, and they can contribute to a woman feeling sexy. Regardless of the reason you feel a need to change your body, one thing is for certain; the satisfaction of the patient is one of the biggest benefits of the procedure. Asymmetrical Breasts: when the size difference is very noticeable it can make a woman feel abnormal or self-conscious. Surgery can correct this asymmetry and provide a woman with a sense of normalcy about her body. Small chested: having an augmentation can not only boost confidence but make them feel more attractive. Many women (and men) consider a full, ample bust line to be sexy. Women with smaller breasts can feel as though they are lacking the curves associated with femininity. Moving ahead with this procedure can alleviate that anxiety and make them more comfortable with their body. Sagging: can be corrected with surgery. Whether this sagging and loss of volume has occurred due to age, weight loss, pregnancy, or other reasons, restoring volume by adding implants can restore the body to its rightful state and help women regain the body image they once had. Illness or an accident: The loss of contour and shape is common among women who have survived cancer. Having surgery to enhance or reconstruct a damaged breast can make a woman feel complete again and help not only the physical healing process, but the emotional one as well. No matter what your reasons are for wanting breast augmentation surgery, Atlanta Plastic and Reconstructive Specialists is here to support you on your journey. Breast Augmentation Consultation Every cosmetic procedure begins with a consultation. The consultation serves a variety of purposes, the most important of which is the opportunity for you to get to know your surgeon and vice versa. A cosmetic procedure requires trust from both the patient and the surgeon. Taking the time to feel comfortable with one another ensures a good working relationship and the best possible results. Consultations are also a time for asking questions and gathering information. It is important to understand the process associated with your breast enhancement procedure so that you know what to expect. This can help alleviate any anxiety you may have regarding the surgery. The consultation is also a time for your Atlanta plastic surgeon to gather pertinent health information. Just as it is important for you to have all the necessary information to move forward with confidence, it is important for the surgeon to understand you and your body to be able to provide you with the best possible recommendations. Breast Implant Surgery Details The procedure involves making an incision under the seam of your breast, circling your areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or under your armpit. The implant is placed either beneath your breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle. Incisions are closed with care to make the scar as unnoticeable as possible. There will be some time and discomfort associated with surgery but it is easily manageable. The results of your surgery will be visible soon after and you’ll be free to enjoy your newly transformed body. Regardless of the reason for your surgery, Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists can help you achieve your breast aesthetic goals. Don’t dream of having the breasts you’ve always wanted, take the first step and schedule your consultation today. Whether your desire is to repair naturally misshapen breasts, to enlarge size, to change the look post child bearing or age, or to improve an individual’s self- image, we can help you in gaining the wanted end result.

Breast Enlargement with Fat Transfer to the Breast involves the removal of fat from other areas of your body such as your legs or abdomen and transferring it into the breast area. Both shape and size can be enhanced and the result is very natural looking and feeling breasts. The advantages of having Fat Transfer Breast Enlargement are: Bigger breasts using your own fat, the most natural alternative to implants available Two procedures in one, areas of the body are slimmed and the breasts enhanced in one session No silicone breast implants, no foreign bodies Can use general anesthesia or IV Sedation, no lengthy time off work Permanent results, unlike implants which may need replacing Downtime is minimal Cosmetic Breast Surgery in Atlanta Fat Transfer in Atlanta Fat Transfer Procedure Description Structural Fat Grafting is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or IV Sedation. This procedure takes between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the amount of fat grafting needed to the area. During this procedure fat is gently removed from the donor site (usually the inner thigh, buttocks, abdomen or the saddle bags) with a small hypodermic needle using a special cannula with limited suction as so not to damage the membrane of the fat cell. The fat is then spun in a centrifuge to remove excess fluids and the damaged fat cells are picked out and only whole, undamaged fat cells would be used. The fat is then injected with the use of a separate smaller hypodermic needle either just under the wrinkle or deep within the muscle in some areas where there is a higher vascularity within the muscle increasing the longevity of the fat graft. A good candidate is: A non-smoker One who desires slightly larger breasts Generally in good health Not pregnant or breast-feeding Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Recovery Following the procedure you can expect to be swollen, a bit bruised, and a little sore both at the treatment site and the donor site. You should keep the treatment area as still as possible for the first few days to allow proper healing and give the area and newly transplanted fat cells a good chance to become vascularized. Avoid high-impact exercise or activities for the first 2 weeks, depending upon the extent of the surgery. If you are unsuitable for an enhancement procedure with Fat Transfer, due to sagging skin or because you may require a surgical breast lift, you will be referred to our Atlanta breast augmentation experts. Having children is one of life’s greatest experiences, but pregnancy and breastfeeding wreak havoc on the body. If you feel self-conscious of the ways your physique has changed after having children, the team at Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists can help, with a procedure called mommy makeover. Why Women Pursue Mommy Makeover Pregnancy and breastfeeding can have several unwanted effects on the body — specifically, the breasts and abdomen. The breast skin can stretch and the breasts may lose/gain volume, resulting in a breast size that is disproportionate to the rest of the body. The breasts may lose their full, youthful shape and look flat. The breasts can sag on the chest wall and the nipples may point downward. In the abdominal region, the skin may lose its youthful, elastic tone and sag on the lower abdomen. The abdominal muscles can weaken or separate. Surplus fat deposits can crop up on the abdomen and other areas around the body. Diet and exercise do not have any effect on these developments, and surgical intervention becomes necessary to restore a youthful, attractive appearance. Body Contouring in Atlanta Mommy Makeover in Atlanta Am I a Candidate for Mommy Makeover? To determine whether you are a suitable candidate for mommy makeover, it is recommended you visit our Atlanta plastic surgery practice for a consultation. At this time, our plastic surgeons will inquire about your specific cosmetic concerns. A physical examination of your “problem areas” will be performed. Our surgeons will draft a plan of treatment to satisfy your anatomical needs and goals of surgery. Generally, mommy makeover candidates are women who are: Frustrated by their post-baby body In good physical health with no chronic, uncontrolled medical conditions Mentally stable Aware of the possible risks Positive about the surgical outcomes How Mommy Makeover Works: Procedures Involved Mommy makeover combines two or more procedures to enhance the appearance of the breasts and body. Mommy makeover treatment plans differ, according to the needs and goals of the specific patient. The operation is generally performed on an outpatient basis and an overnight stay is not required. Anesthesia is always used for patient comfort. Mommy makeover typically includes tummy tuck surgery to eliminate excess abdominal fat and skin and repair weakened or separated abdominal muscles. Usually, mommy makeover also includes one or more procedures to modify the breasts. For example, saggy breasts might be lifted to a more youthful position, small or flat breasts augmented with implants or oversized breasts reduced in size. Downward-pointing nipples can be corrected and oversized areolas modified. In some mommy makeover cases, liposuction techniques are used to remove diet and exercise-resistant fat pockets from the buttocks, hips, thighs or upper arms. Surgical side effects such as bruising, swelling and soreness are common, yet temporary. Initially, range of motion is limited, depending on the areas of the body that have been treated. Oral medication can be taken as prescribed, if needed. The patient can gradually return to normal activities, including work, exercise and socializing, upon our surgeons’ recommendations. YOU’RE A PERSON, NOT A PROCEDURE: What truly makes Atlantic Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists special is that our team is concerned with your happiness first. You are more than a procedure to be performed; you are a person whose safety and satisfaction come first. Facelift in Atlanta WHY CHOOSE ATLANTA PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SPECIALISTS By making incisions within the hairline above and behind the ear, nobody will know you’ve had a facelift procedure unless you tell them. Your surgeon then takes the loose skin and deeper muscles and pulls them tight, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles that show signs of aging. The skin is then reattached and tightened to hold the look in place, adding a new tone to your face. Any extra skin is removed and, if need be, excess fat can be suctioned off (this is usually done in the neck region). With a facelift you’ll appear refreshed and your youthful glow will beam back at you from the mirror once again. Mini Face Lift (Lunchtime Lift) The lunchtime or mini facelift is a surgical procedure that is performed in our office minor OR with mild sedation and a local anesthetic. The mini lift targets the facial aging changes mostly in the mid to upper face region. It does not correct severe jowling or the “turkey neck” appearance. It is a rejuvenation procedure with limited incision and the usual recovery time is 5-7 days of bruising and “downtime”. Many patients these days are treated inappropriately with repeated expensive “fillers” that do not quite fix the problem. Some patients need a min lift in conjunction with fillers or in place of the fillers alone. Atlanta Plastic and Reconstruction Specialists offers both surgery and fillers depending on what is indicated and what the patient’s budget allows. Let us help you determine what is right for you. A facelift procedure in Atlanta, like any other cosmetic procedure, requires careful consideration and consultation. Contact our practice for the most up-to-date information regarding techniques, risks, and benefits associated with the procedure. Being informed will help you achieve the best possible results from your cosmetic surgery.

Our foreheads are one of the first places that begin to show the signs of aging. Wrinkles and fine lines can give away a person’s age as quickly as a birth certificate. A forehead or brow lift can help alleviate the lines associated with age, as well as remedy sagging or drooping brows and eyelids. The result is a younger, fresher looking you. Brow lift procedures can be done on their own or at the same time as other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or skin resurfacing. Brow Lift Procedure & Techniques When it comes to brow lifts, there are two different techniques used to achieve the desired results. The first technique is known as the open method. In this approach to forehead surgery, incisions are placed behind or along the hairline; the muscles in the forehead are improved upon to reduce the appearance of deep creases. Once that is complete, the skin and muscles are tightened resulting in a smoother, more youthful looking brow. For other patients, the endoscopic brow lift may be the better option. Rather than making one large incision at the hairline, with endoscopic surgery, several small incisions are made; a small camera and special instruments are used to achieve the desired muscle improvements. At this point, the brow is lifted and held in place by special anchors that hold the forehead in its new, preferred location. By taking the endoscopic approach to a forehead lift, the chance for minor problems, such as scarring and hair loss, are minimized. During the initial consultation, each approach will be discussed. Then depending on the needs of the individual, the right technique to achieve optimal results can be determined.

What is Eyelid Surgery? Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that is designed to remove the bags that form under a person’s eyes with age. By removing this loose skin and tightening up the areas around the eye muscles, eyelid surgery replaces that tired, worn look with that youthful vibrancy your eyes are meant to have. Eyelid surgery is often combined with other facial procedures. Why People Pursue Eyelid Surgery The natural aging process causes the thin eyelid skin to lose its elasticity and stretch. The skin can start to fold and, in some cases, hang down over the edge of the upper eyelids, impeding vision. The lids might feel heavy. Aging also causes the eyelid muscles to weaken, and the upper eyelid to droop. Fat may protrude through the weakened muscles in the lower eyelids and cause undereye “bags.” And, fine lines and wrinkles can crop up in the delicate skin around the eyelids. All of these factors distract from the natural beauty of the eyes, and give the face an exhausted, sad or aged appearance. Creams and lotions won’t do anything for loose skin and fat deposits. The only solution is surgical intervention to eliminate redundant skin and fat, tighten the eyelid muscles and rejuvenate the eye area. The entire face looks younger and more pleasant after eyelid surgery. Am I a Suitable Candidate for Eyelid Surgery? If you wonder whether you qualify for eyelid lift, it is best to schedule a consultation with the team at Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists. Our board certified plastic surgeons will inquire about your aesthetic concerns and desired outcomes. The surgeons will also examine your lids to determine the cause of the problem(s) and decide whether eyelid lift is the best solution. If it is not, the surgeon will explore alternative treatment options. You may be a suitable candidate for eyelid lift if you: Have loose, saggy eyelid skin on your upper and/or lower eyelids Are frustrated with fine lines or wrinkles around the delicate eyelid skin Have puffy “bags” underneath your eyes Are in good physical and mental health Do not smoke Do not have a chronic or uncontrolled illness or medical condition that could impair healing Maintain a positive outlook and reasonable expectations of surgery Blepharoplasty Procedure Details Eyelid lift is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Anesthesia is administered. The procedure takes between one and two hours, depending on the specific surgical steps. During the operation, the eyelid surgeon makes small incisions within the natural lines of the upper and lower eyelids. The incisions are placed carefully so that any scars will be concealed within the folds of the eyelids. Through the incisions, the surgeon removes redundant fat and tightens the eyelid muscles. Wrinkles are smoothed and excess skin is trimmed. The incisions are closed with small sutures. Recovery Recovery from eyelid surgery is short and usually complication-free. There may initially be mild swelling, bruising, irritation or discomfort, but these side effects can be managed with oral medication, cold compresses and soothing ointment. Botox in Atlanta, performed by our team, is a non-invasive facial rejuvenation procedure used to lessen wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead. Botox injections will not address sagging or drooping skin, but for those people looking to tackle “crow’s feet” or “worry lines” it could be exactly what you are looking for. Botox works by addressing the muscles that have tensed over the years and are causing your skin to wrinkle. The injection causes the muscles in the face to relax, thereby allowing the skin to smooth back to its natural state. This newly smoothed surface rolls years off your face without the need for costly surgery and a lengthy recovery. What Does BOTOX Treat? Botox has proven successful in treating many of the unwanted traits associated with age. Botox may be right for you if any of the following sounds like you: You have fine lines (often referred to as “crow’s feet”) around your eyes. You have lines from your nose that extend downward (often referred to as “laugh lines”). You have lines or wrinkles around your mouth (often referred to as “frown lines”). You have lines or wrinkles on your forehead. Getting answers to the aging issues outlined above without the need for surgery or a lengthy recovery has made Botox a popular facial rejuvenation option for many men and women. Why Choose our Facilities for BOTOX As cosmetic procedures continue to grow in popularity so too do the options available for services (both legitimate and less than so). To ensure the best results for your procedure as well as to protect your personal health and safety, our clinic is the best choice for your cosmetic treatment needs. Our practice is considered the leading plastic surgery clinic in Atlanta for many reasons: Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists offers a team of board-certified plastic surgeons to serve you. All of our doctors have years of education and experience! In case that wasn’t enough, Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists offers the only triple board-certified plastic surgeon in the United States. You are a person, not a procedure! Our doctors take the time to get to know the clients and fully understand their goals for cosmetic surgery. A person’s happiness comes first, that is why you’ll never be rushed through haphazardly. Atlanta Plastic & Reconstructive Specialists is dedicated to safety. They use only the finest materials and modern techniques to ensure you the highest quality as well as top-notch safety. To ensure further safety of clients, the office is located in the medical office building of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Atlanta’s premiere medical institution. BOTOX TREATMENT DETAILS Unlike a face or brow lift, a Botox cosmetic treatment is done right in your plastic surgeon’s office. Once a patient schedules their appointment, the doctor will prepare the injection fresh for the incoming client (Botox’s potency begins to fade after 12 hours of preparation). During the procedure the doctor will give small shots of Botox Cosmetic to the patient through facial injections. Each small dose loosens the muscles in a small area. Once all of the muscles in the “trouble” area have been treated, the skin will begin to relax and wrinkles will fade away. Patients who receive Botox Cosmetic treatments in Atlanta have been known to see results in as little as a few days, but it generally takes up to two weeks to see the full benefit of your Botox treatment. If you are interested in finding out how you can receive discounts on treatments in the future, ask about Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions Program!

For the many people who have issues with their skin, it can feel as though there is no solution. While some over the counter products help many, those people with significant skin problems find little relief. Since our faces often act as our calling cards when interacting with other people, blemishes, acne scarring, and even pronounced signs of aging can challenge one’s self-confidence. Purpose of Skin Resurfacing For those people who suffer with skin issues, of which standard over the counter treatments do not address, there are skin resurfacing procedures available. Skin resurfacing procedures can smooth the appearance of scarring and reduce the signs of aging by removing the upper most layers of skin allowing fresh, healthy, younger looking skin to shine through. Depending on the issues a patient would like to see treated, there are a variety of options available. Chemical peels and laser technology treatments are a couple of options available to help restore the skin to its natural condition, but one of the most effective and commonly used techniques is Dermabrasion. Dermabrasion helps to smooth the skin by stripping away the damaged surface skin through surgical scraping or sanding of the area. During the procedure, the skin is removed through the use of a wire brush or motorized burr containing diamond particles. While the treatment may sound rough, it is not more intrusive than other skin resurfacing procedures. How Dermabrasion Works and its Benefits Dermabrasion is used to treat facial skin that has been scarred by acne, accidental damage, or previous surgical procedures. It can also be used to treat the fine lines associated with age. Dermabrasion has a variety of uses, and it can treat a small section of facial skin or the entire face. Dermabrasion is one of several skin resurfacing techniques that can be used to help a patient achieve their skin reconstruction goal. A consultation is the best way for you and your surgeon to determine the best approach to treat any facial skin care needs.

Individuals with facial skin left scarred by acne, accidents or previous surgery can benefit from skin resurfacing. Skin resurfacing procedures can also help smooth out fine facial wrinkles, such as those around the mouth or to remove pre-cancerous growths called keratoses. There are many methods available for skin resurfacing. Chemical peels use a caustic solution to remove the undesirable layer of skin, while dermabrasion scrapes them away. Laser, which is the latest technique, removes superficial skin by evaporating it. Each one of these techniques has advantages and disadvantages. During your initial consultation, we will evaluate your physical condition and needs to recommend the best option for you. Laser Skin Resurfacing in Atlanta Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment Details During laser resurfacing, a CO2 laser is used to vaporize the outermost, superficial layer of the skin. Computer controlled bursts of laser energy are precisely delivered to the skin surface in a pre-defined pattern (square, circle, rectangle, line, etc.). The laser is used to create a controlled “burn” of the skin, but without the thermal heat effect that can be so damaging.
