We recently took our 2-year-old daughter to Nicklaus Children’s Urgent Care because she had very high fevers. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing.
The nurses and physician showed very little empathy and were not personable at all. My daughter was scared, uncomfortable, and clearly not feeling well, yet there seemed to be no effort to help her feel safe or at ease during the examination. The interactions felt rushed and impersonal, as if the staff were simply there to clock in and collect a paycheck. We received better care and compassion at the regular Jackson Emergency Room.
As parents, we expect a pediatric facility to provide not only medical care but also compassion and reassurance for young children. If the name wasn’t on the building, I would not have known this was a pediatric center based on the way our child was treated.
While the medical evaluation may have been adequate, the lack of warmth, empathy, and child-friendly care left us very disappointed.

We arrived at 10:55, the urgent care part officially opens at 11. There was security and front deck staff there. We were kicked out of the lobby and made to wait outside the slodibg doors for the 5 minutes. There were already several parents with their sick kids outside in the heat. Imagine having the AC and chairs available and making people with sick kids wait outside when we could’ve just sat in the lobby until 11. Very unkind treatment. No one expects staff to start before their shift, but allowing sick kids wait in the AC cost nothing when the lobby is already open anyways. Would give 0 stars if I could but the doctor and nurses were great. The front desk staff is unkind and mediocre 0/10.

I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience at this facility. The level of care and professionalism we received was unacceptable, especially for a pediatric setting.
The nurse, Lisette, was very rude and unprofessional. She showed no patience or compassion toward my child and spoke to him in a harsh and inappropriate manner. When attempting to use the finger clip monitor, she became visibly frustrated because my child was moving (as children often do), and instead of handling the situation calmly, she acted aggressively and even threw the cable toward the wall. That behavior alone was completely unacceptable.
I expressed concerns about my child’s cough, which sounds severe and full of phlegm to the point where he is choking at times. I asked if additional testing, such as a chest X-ray, could be considered. Those concerns were not taken seriously.
When the doctor, Meneses, came in, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. He briefly listened to my child’s chest and checked his ears, then diagnosed him with Influenza B based primarily on what I told him without performing any confirmatory testing or offering further evaluation. There was no discussion about testing for flu, COVID, strep, or any other possible conditions. I was not given options or included in any meaningful decision making regarding my child’s care.
Overall, the experience felt like they were more focused on getting us out quickly than providing proper medical attention. This is especially concerning when dealing with children, who require patience, attentiveness, and thorough care.
The only positive part of our visit was Mady, who was kind and attempted to explain things, but unfortunately the overall care we received from the nurse and doctor overshadowed that completely.
I would not recommend this facility based on my experience. I am extremely dissatisfied and would like to escalate this matter to someone in a higher position, as this level of care is unacceptable.
