I feel the need to be honest here. While I understand PT should be uncomfortable and even painful, here's my situation. I had a total rotator cuff repair. Three days later, I went here for my initial PT eval, opting for here because its 5 minutes from my house. They were gracious and got me right in. I was so happy, no hour drive to go to my PT appts. I went in, did a few exercises, then Cheryl laid me on my back and did passive, aggressive ROM exercises to the point I nearly passed out from excruiating pain. It felt like she was tearing the repair that I just had done 3 days prior. I was sobbing uncontrollably but she just kept going. THIS IS NOT NORMAL care, especially 3 days post-op. GENTLE passive ROM is important 3 days post-op, not torturing and possibly injuring the repair. I went back to my surgeons office next day, had PT there and it was a 360 degree difference. Normal, reasonable, discomfort but not to the point, Im literally traumatized. While Cheryl and staff are nice, I question the ability to perform a standard of care that is reasonable and that would follow guidelines post-operatively. I hate to post this but I dont want what happened to me happen to anyone else.
Followup: The PT called me this morning stating she would have appreciated if I would have discussed my feelings with her before writing this. She had the gall to blame me because I didnt take a pain pill prior to going. Noone, pain pill or not, should be subjected to this amount of pain with a physical therapist. I do NOT have a low pain tolerance. If a healthcare professional sees a patient in excrutiating, bawling, sobbing pain, STOP, dont keep going. Im incensed that she called trying to blame me for experiencing this pain because I didnt take a pain pill prior. I will reiterate, this wasnt NORMAL passive ROM exercise pain. I know the difference!
