I had a very disappointing experience with the attention received on Friday night. The doctor who treated my daughter gave me a diagnosis that, according to the subsequent evaluation, was not correct. As a mother, I consider this something very serious, since one trusts the criteria and attention of a professional when it comes to the health of our children. I left very dissatisfied with the attention and with the way in which the situation was handled. I will definitely not return to this place and I hope you carefully review this type of situation to prevent other families from going through a similar experience.

I’m extremely disappointed with the care my son received at this hospital. I brought him in with fever, vomiting, and a persistent cough, and the only thing they did was give him medication to bring down his fever. No testing was done to rule out common illnesses such as the flu. Four days later, after his fever continued and he was not improving, I had to take him to his pediatrician. He was tested and came back positive for influenza. What is most frustrating is that this could have been identified from the beginning with a simple test. Instead, I was told that there are “over 100 viruses going around” and it was assumed to be a typical childhood virus without first ruling out some of the most common illnesses that could explain his symptoms. As a parent, when you bring your child to the hospital with persistent fever, vomiting, and coughing, you expect an appropriate evaluation, not simply treatment of the fever and an assumption about the cause. Had the proper testing been done initially, we could have known what we were dealing with much sooner and discussed the appropriate treatment with his doctor. Unfortunately, instead of improving, my son continued to get worse for several days before we finally received an actual diagnosis from his pediatrician. This experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing, and I expected a much more thorough evaluation for a sick child.

Honestly amazing! I’m a first time mom and when my 9 month old baby boy had a fever spike to almost 103, I almost lost my mind. Going to Nicklaus Children’s ER was the best decision my husband and I made. The sign in staff was super kind and informative, the wait wasn’t bad at all, they first took his vitals literally 10 mins after we registered, and then maybe waited about 15 mins to be seen by the doctor. The doctor and nurses explained the viral process he was going through, what medications to give him and how, and provided him with his first dose to start lowering his fever. Hopefully we don’t have another scare like that with him, but if we do, I’ll definitely take him back to this ER. THANK YOU, to all the staff there for all that you do. It helped ease my mom heart and worry in more ways than one 🥹🫶🏼

I’m disappointed with the experience my daughter and I had at this children’s hospital. While the doctors were wonderful, attentive, and professional, unfortunately our experience with several of the nurses was very different. During an already stressful and vulnerable time as a parent, I expected the nursing staff at a children’s hospital to provide a sense of warmth, compassion, patience, and reassurance. Instead, the atmosphere often felt cold and uninviting. At times, I felt as though my daughter and I were a burden simply for needing care. Some interactions even came across as unnecessarily harsh or almost aggressive when attending to my daughter, which was extremely uncomfortable to witness as her mother. Families who bring their children to a hospital are often scared, exhausted, and worried. A little kindness, patience, and compassion can make an enormous difference. Children especially deserve to feel safe and cared for by the people attending to them. I’m grateful for the doctors who treated my daughter and made us feel that her care mattered. However, I truly hope the hospital takes a closer look at the overall attitude and atmosphere among its nursing staff.
