At Nicklaus Children's, we know that a child's needs are different from adults.
To ensure that your child is seen by a pediatric specialist when it is most needed, the Emergency Department has a team of board-certified, fellowship trained, and board-eligible attending pediatric specialists and subspecialties on call, 24 hours a day.
The Nicklaus Children's Hospital Emergency Department is proud to be home to the Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center, the only freestanding Level III pediatric trauma center in Florida.
Not coming back. I brought my son in with a 102.8°F fever, diarrhea with blood and mucus, and he was a little dehydrated. They made us wait for over two hours. My son kept crying, and we got desperate, so we walked out.
By the way, the nurse who initially helped us was super nice and professional. But as we were leaving, we spoke to another nurse and told her we were leaving because no one had come to see our son. She just said, “Okay, the door is right there.”

We required an ER visit for our daughter and her pediatrician suggested we go to Nicklaus Children’s…
No ER experience is “good” but this was the best it could be for several reasons.
The waiting room was bright, cheery and nearly empty..! Which didn’t really matter since we were called into an ER room almost immediately.
The ER area was clean and had lots of space.
The doctor made a preliminary diagnosis in the 1st 5 minutes which was confirmed via testing completed later in the visit.
Her bedside manner and communication style were impeccable. She was very professional and yet approachable and easy to communicate with.
Also worth mentioning is that the admin staff only asked about insurance particulars a few hours into the visit.
Nicklaus Children’s would be our 1st choice if we require any future ER visits.

Visiting family from Orlando, my son started to feel really bad at 3am we ran to Nicklaus children hospital, as our oldest was once a patient many moons ago. The doctor and nurses were a horrible experience. We didn’t receive the care we needed they take forever for literally everything. I felt I had to be chasing the dr and nurse to get an attention. If your son has a fever and you see them shivering turning purple how is I supposed to be chasing the nurse after for medication no blankets were asked if we needed nor did they request if the parents needed anything. There’s no pull ups or diapers for kids, no water bottles, no straws. As a NEMOURS patient in Orlando, you guys in Miami children hospital really need to step up. Nemours would have never. Sadly I wasn’t in area when all this happened and I felt my child didn’t receive the care he really needed.

I want to begin by saying that the nurses, all the staff, and the PA who attended us were all incredibly kind. My daughter had been experiencing symptoms for about a week, and I had mentioned that they were quite similar to those she had experienced a couple of months ago when she had pneumonia. I asked the PA to run an X-ray to rule it out, but he denied it, stating that her lungs sounded fine and that there was no need for further testing. They also didn’t conduct any COVID-19 tests or flu, no tests besides the basic ear, throat, and heart examinations. They drained her nose and gave me Motrin for her fever before sending me home.
Unfortunately, this experience didn’t sit well with me. Five days later, my daughter was still sick, so I took her to the Nicholas Children’s Urgent Care in Miami Lakes. They ran all the necessary tests, and the X-ray revealed that my daughter indeed had pneumonia in both lungs. Fortunately, it wasn’t severe.
I am disappointed that my request was dismissed and that my theory was proven to be correct.
