This facility used to be a great place to receive kidney care, but over the last several months it has changed dramatically. As it has become busier and more short-staffed, it often feels like the focus is getting patients in and out instead of providing the level of attention dialysis patients need.
I do want to recognize LaShonda and Melvin. They are the reason I am giving this facility two stars instead of one. I have watched them work through serious staffing shortages, going from patient to patient and doing everything possible to make sure people are cared for. Their dedication and compassion deserve recognition.
Unfortunately, my experience with management has been very different. I have had repeated communication issues with Center Director Ray, including being told one thing and later something different. This included problems with my Home Hemo training location and schedule after I had already arranged childcare and my family’s schedule based on what I was originally told.
My biggest concern is communication and consent regarding my treatment. I specifically requested that medications and treatment changes be explained to me beforehand and put in writing. Despite this, I experienced medication being administered without being properly informed beforehand. I also specifically stated that I did not want saline returned to me, yet I experienced saline being given back and was initially told it had not happened until the treatment record showed otherwise.
I brought serious concerns to Shannon, Ray’s supervisor, but instead of feeling that the issue was addressed, the conversation shifted toward Home Hemo, which I already knew was an option. I was later told that no formal complaint had been filed. I then escalated my concerns to Rick Rice and am still waiting for meaningful resolution.
I have also experienced concerning inconsistencies when temporary staff are covering and have questioned whether prescribed machine settings were always being followed correctly.
The front desk experience has also been disappointing. In my experience, Janel has not always handled patient concerns professionally. I have even had to ask staff to help elderly or mobility-impaired patients who were struggling outside.
I have also been disappointed with my experience with Dr. Kaleci. My visits have generally been brief, and when I raised concerns regarding treatment and consent, I did not feel that my concerns as the patient were fully heard or independently addressed.
Dialysis patients are already dealing with an exhausting medical condition. We should not also have to fight for clear communication, consistent scheduling, proper documentation, or the right to understand and consent to what is being done to our bodies.
This facility used to be a place I could have given five stars. I sincerely hope it returns to that level of care.
My two stars are for LaShonda and Melvin. They have shown me what patient care at this facility should look like. ***If something Happens to me we know it because the truth was said*****
