My wife and I had a very disappointing experience with the Target Optical location inside our local store. Initially, everything seemed fine—the eye doctor was professional, and the staff member who helped us pick out frames and contacts was kind and helpful.
However, things quickly went downhill afterward. Once we got home, we realized we didn’t fully understand what we had been charged or how our vision benefits were applied. My wife called the store to request an itemized receipt, and the employee she spoke with told her she only had 24 hours to pick it up due to some unclear “insurance process.” This didn’t make sense, but we rearranged our day— I even left work—just to make sure we got it in time.
When my wife went in to pick up the receipt, she tried to ask questions about how her benefits were used. The same employee was dismissive and unhelpful, telling her to “take it up with your HR department,” which was not helpful at all. After more than 20 minutes of getting nowhere, she left frustrated and still without answers.
I then called the store myself, and the interaction was even worse. The same employee was extremely rude and disrespectful. He not only refused to explain anything clearly but also questioned my ability to read English, which I found insulting and inappropriate. It felt demeaning, and frankly, discriminatory.
I asked to speak with a manager, but of course, no manager was available. I then contacted the main Target store manager, who was understanding and said they would escalate the issue and have the optical manager call me back. That never happened.
We are still waiting on the glasses we ordered, but at this point, I regret giving this location our business. It’s unfortunate that such poor and disrespectful customer service is tolerated. I would not recommend this location to anyone, especially if you expect basic professionalism and clear communication about your benefits.
