Chelbi is a great teacher. She explains everything. She takes her time, she offers alternatives, depending upon your body issues. And she’s fun.

The booking of classes at Club Pilates is a major problem. Billing is stated as the 1st of each month, but no credits for my 4 classes a month appeared until the 6th, when the credit card charge actually posted — in July, August, and September. It was not possible to start reserving any classes until the 6th. By then the classes taught by the instructor I liked were full and I was “the fourth on a waiting list.” Toward the end of August I wanted to beat the rush and paid $38 on top of the $119 I had already paid that month, so I could start booking my first September class in August. Guess what? Even then the first available class was not until mid-month — September 14th. Classes run about twelve people to one instructor. In the classes I took with instructors other than the one I liked, no one corrected my form. I often couldn't see what anyone else was doing, so I was guessing at the movements. I decided to look for another studio. I cancelled my membership on September 3. Cancelling requires 30 days' notice, so besides the September payment of $119, they will bill me another $119 for the entire October. The studio I joined sells packages of 5 or 10 classes. You book what you want and renew when you want. There's no notice period to cancel because there's nothing to give notice about. The classes I buy are good for three months, not one, and if I ever want a head start on reserving I can buy another pack at any time. Seven people maximum, four in my first class and three in my second, and the instructor diligently corrected my form. She even used a pelvic skeleton as a prop to make sure everyone understood what she was saying. I booked all ten classes the moment I submitted my payment — no waiting until the payment clears. The difference between the two studios is large enough that I'm walking away from my $238 ($119 for September and another $119 for October) rather than go back to Club Pilates. The good studios don't need to lock you in. People go back to them because they want to.
