The salesman explained the system (3 pairs of insoles of different rigidity levels, etc.) and I tried them in a pair of good sneakers. After a walking trip or 2 around the building, my intense pain was almost gone. I was very excited. Then the whole process took on a different tone and I began to feel like I was buying a car. First, they handed me a price sheet and asked me for about $1,500.00. Yes, I said “$1,500.00.” I sat motionless staring at that number (I don’t think it was the highest number on that sheet either). I balked. They offered a monthly payment plan (we’re trying to buy a house; don’t need more debt on my credit). The manager offered to restructure the deal for a lower amount ($800). Appreciated, but even if you don’t include the $200 (other places) Brooks sneakers, it’s WAY too much. They’re still just shoe inserts!! And, frankly, how do you cut the price almost in half like you do it all the time as your first negotiating point? Why did you ask me for nearly TWICE that much initially? If that were the only game in town, maybe I’d pay $800 (begrudgingly). I might have even paid $500 because they were a good product. But I just don’t see going over $350 or so for these shoe inserts. They’re a great product but I feel like another big pharma company is just trying to maximize revenue at my expense. Other cheaper (but still good) options are at your grocery store, drug store, or doctor’s office. I’m really curious to know what the margins are on these arch supports at the good feet store.
