Amy Harrington was a great care coordinator. She listened and heard what our family’s needs were and got us someone who is caring, professional, supportive, and a perfect fit for our family. In a short time, our caregiver, Jennifer, has developed a great rapport with everyone at home and supports our needs. I’m very happy with this local group.

If you value the care your loved one receives, do not hire Home Instead. I ended up turning more caregivers away than I kept because they were just awful. I hired them for 24hr care for my father, who is already in Assisted Living, and it was a huge mistake. First of all, they say their prices start at $33 an hour, but if you need them within 24 hours of the evaluation, the first day is $50 an hour. But they won't tell you that until its almost too late. I learned this is not a normal thing amongst other caregiving companies. The first caregiver I asked not to return was a young woman who constantly talked about how much she hated men, how much she disliked caregiving, and how she was in cosmetology school to get out of it. The second was a man who ignored my father's needs completely. He neglected him to the point where he used the restoom all over himself, and talked loudly (practically shouting) on the phone with someone the entire time he was with him- even while my father was trying to sleep. I received calls from my father's Assisted Living stating that this caregiver was being rude to the staff and ignoring his responsibilities. I asked Home Instead that he was not to return. The third was a woman who Home Instead said was new to the company, which I can empathize with. What I cannot empathize with is the caregiver leaving my father before she is relieved by the next caregiver. For someone who requires 24hr care, the number one rule is that they are not to be left alone. It was fortunate that I was there to watch him. This is unforgivable. The fourth time I had an issue, the man from earlier showed up again after I already requested he not return. After I got home, and was about to call Home Instead about the issue, I started receiving calls from the Assisted Living about his neglect, attitude, and loud phone talking again! I gave this company chance after chance, but they managed to fail me and my father in new ways every time. I tried to get some sort of refund from them for the treatment we received, but they were only willing to refund the amount for services already paid for after I fired them. They did let me know that the male caregiver who I was receiving complaints about was let go from the company, but that's just not good enough for me. The schedulers are bad, most of the caregivers are bad, and the higher ups don't seem to care all too much. My father was supposed to be an easy client, considering he lives in assisted living who do a lot of the work already. I cannot imagine how they treat clients who are at home and need more care. Avoid this company like the plague.

I had a short term care need assist with Home Instead. The care givers are knowledgable, considerate and a pleasure to work with. Their coordinating staff, in my case, Amy H. was the absolute best!
