  Hygiene practices at VIDA U St are disturbing. Recently relocated to DC for work from Ohio, I decided to try VIDA during their trial period for new members. The “gym ambassador” who gave my initial tour was well dressed and pleasant, and I was given the impression that VIDA would offer a “premium gym experience.” Unfortunately, I found the U St location to be noticeably dusty. I encourage anyone considering joining to simply look up at almost any point in the gym—particularly at the light fixtures or columns—and notice the large collections of dust and cobwebs that have accumulated. Some amenities were also not operational during my trial period. What was most disturbing was that, on multiple occasions, I witnessed staff in the men’s locker room mopping the floors with the same type of towels provided for guests. I hope the towels are properly washed (!!!), but that doesn’t exactly make it reassuring to see towels used for guests’ bodies also being used to mop the locker room floor. I was so shocked that the third time I saw it happen, I took a picture (attached). Nothing says “premium gym experience” quite like that. For what they want to charge, I expected at least some standard of cleanliness and maintenance. I won’t be returning to VIDA.

  Overall I enjoy going to this gym. The U street location is really spacious and pretty, with lots of windows and natural sunlight. Has just as much equipment, if not more, than Equinox, and a high-end feel, but for less of a price. Cons: you have to bring your own lock, + guest passes don’t renew with each new year so if you spend your 2 guest passes you are out of luck bringing a partner or friend to workout with you moving forward—unless you want to pay for a day pass for them or can take advantage of the various promotion periods during the year where you can bring a friend for free.

  Rude staff, overcrowded, expensive. Not worthy. Forgot to say, I also got robbed inside the locker room as someone broke into my locked locker and stole my belongings.
