Went to Candlelight Yoga with Marjean last night with 4 friends — we’re brand new college students at AU still figuring out the DC bus system - which had delays last evening, and it made us a couple minutes late. I arrived right at like 5:50, my friends right behind me at 6:01, and explained the situation to Marjean. She gave me a nasty look and flatly said they couldn’t come in. My home studio has a 10-minute grace period, so I was surprised a full class would be locked out over one minute. When my friends came down the stairs at literally 6:00, I asked if she’d let them in — she said no, class had started, and she had to go. As I walked out, she called after me that no one was allowed in the studio, which she didn’t need to say with the attitude she used. She eventually came back, let us in, then scolded us to hurry up as she left. At that point we just walked out and skipped class altogether — the whole interaction left us feeling unwelcome, not the vibe you want from a yoga instructor. This was our first time considering a membership here, and her tone made the decision for us. I get you have to follow the rules, but be kind! Be patient! Instructors are supposed to set a warm, welcoming tone, especially for brand-new students — this was the opposite. Disappointing experience, won’t be back.

I took the CSX class - corepower strength X Glutes + Core. The instructor was super nice and friendly however the towels are kind of smelly here, so I would recommend you bring your own. The instructor offered a lot of alternatives/modifications during the workout, but it was a very simple workout, nothing challenging, it definitely couldve been made more challenging given the name of the class. This class is great if you are a beginner but if you are looking for any sort of challenge I do not recommend corepower

The studio is clean and the facilities seem nice, but this wasn’t a good experience for a beginner. I checked in early, as instructed, and informed the teacher it was my first class. She told me where to go, and that was about. The class was very crowded and the instructions were very quick. Much of the time, we were instructed vocally, and I had no idea what to do. I ended up walking out about 20 minutes in because I felt so dumb and uncomfortable. This isn’t my first workout class. I’ve done Pilates and other classes at larger gyms. I received less help and instruction in this smaller studio than I have in larger gyms. Maybe if you’re already good at yoga, this is a good place for you, but I didn’t feel welcome as someone new.

This is one of my favorite Corepower studios in DC and I’ve genuinely never had a negative experience. The instructors are all so warm and I like how unlike other studios there’s a variety of unique class formats that I don’t see often like breathwork and candlelight c2! Megan and Keegan are my favorites and anytime I see them on the schedule I have to take a class with them, such lovely instructors
