I had a very disappointing experience with Pure Barre Darien and would not recommend this studio based on how my situation was handled. To be clear, I have really enjoyed the classes themselves. The instructors are good, and the classes are strong. Unfortunately, management missed the mark on customer service in a big way. I mistakenly believed I had purchased class credits rather than a recurring membership, and I fully acknowledge that misunderstanding was mine. However, once I realized I had paid approximately $600 for classes I had not used, I reached out hoping to find a reasonable solution. Unfortunately, the process was frustrating from start to finish. You cannot reach a human by phone, email responses were slow, as in more than 12 days + at times for a reply, and I had to physically go twice to the studio (change my schedule to speak to someone live). When I was in person to speak with someone directly, I found the staff to be rude, defensive, and not particularly empathetic or helpful. That included the owner, Laura, who I felt handled the situation in a dismissive and unnecessarily rigid way without bothering to fact check and truly understand the situation. I asked for a practical compromise: to use a portion of the unused classes I had already paid for in a more flexible way. First they wanted me to spend another $400 to get class passes. I said that totally doesn't address my issue here. Then, they offered a limited extension that did not work for my schedule. All this was via email over a two months period, which was frustrating. Then, after two negative interactions with their staff, they revoked that initial offer entirely, which I found really unfortunate and unnecessary. I was also later characterized as “irate” and accused of putting pressure on staff, which really caught me off guard. That is so far from my experience of what happened. I was frustrated with the process, yes, but I was not disrespectful or even raise my voice. People who know me would have a hard time reconciling me being irate or pressuring staff. Simply not my m.o. However you slice it, that is not a professional way to interact with customers. I understand businesses need policies, but this was not a great way to work with people (a working mom at that) or build goodwill. Good customer service requires communication, empathy, and a willingness to find fair solutions. Sadly, that was not my experience here at all. I did not feel they listened, asked what would work best, or made any meaningful effort to find a reasonable compromise. They were utterly inflexible. In my view, strategic business owners understand that working with customers in good faith and preserving long-term relationships is often far more valuable than taking a rigid short-term position to save a few bucks that eliminates future revenue and goodwill. Good luck to them.

Love this studio! First off it’s really pretty and I love working out with windows especially in the summer. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. I really enjoy taking class here especially Kimberly’s classes. Pure barre offers something for everyone and is attainable for any level of fitness. I love how I can choose a format based on my goals or how I’m feeling that day. Their Classic classes cannot be matched! Always so challenging. And love having a cardio and weight training options (empower and define). Thanks for being so consistent and challenging over the years!
