I had a great first experience at Club Pilates in San Marcos. I’m in town for the weekend and I am really happy I could find this studio. They have a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I really liked the instructor Jean. She is very knowledgeable and has a nice vibe about her. The gal next to me was new to Pilates and I liked how supportive and helpful Jean was making her feel at ease. The machines themselves are great and high quality and the pace of the class was perfect for a Sunday morning. If I come back to town I will definitely be back. Thank you Club Pilates!

I canceled my membership at Club Pilates San Marcos after submitting a formal complaint regarding an instructor interaction and management’s handling of the matter. When I joined, I disclosed a longstanding knee injury from an MCL tear. During my first several weeks at the studio, I also made a point of informing the instructors I worked with about this limitation. During a Level 1 class, the instructor specifically offered a modification for participants with knee concerns. I followed that modification exactly as instructed. Moments later, a comment was made that anyone with a knee injury should have disclosed it at the beginning of class. As the only participant using the modification, I felt singled out for doing exactly what I had been instructed to do. My complaint was never about instructors asking about injuries. My complaint was that I was left feeling that I needed to repeatedly disclose and justify a decades-old injury in order to use a modification that had already been offered. After submitting a formal complaint, management focused on whether I disclosed my injury at the beginning of class rather than addressing the issue I raised. The studio ultimately concluded that I was not intentionally singled out, but that conclusion misses the point. The issue was never intent. The issue was impact. The question that remains unanswered is simple: If I was following the modification the instructor specifically provided for people with knee concerns, why was it necessary for me to repeatedly disclose and justify a decades-old injury in order to use it?

My first session with the Pilates San Marcos studio was with Vickie as the group pilates instructor. I had not been in a reformer class in 3 years. Vickie walked with me through my apprehensions and I felt individually supported in a group pilates session. She's a wonderful Pilates Teacher!

After taking several months off from Pilates I went back for a foundation class with Jean and boy am I glad I did! I usually don’t feel challenged by level I classes but this one was different! I tried some new exercises that I had never done before and got such a great workout. Will definitely be back!

Stephanie is amazing! She’s very attentive to individual needs and modifies exercises as needed so everyone feels included. The studio in San Marcos is unlike most other exercise places— In a good way!
