I had a really interesting experience taking Angela’s Sculpt class at the Mission Valley location. The workout itself was definitely challenging, which I enjoyed, but I found some of the sequencing and transitions difficult to follow.
I’ve been going to CorePower for a few years and have taken Sculpt, C2, and HPF classes throughout California, Texas, Colorado, and Florida, so I’ve experienced quite a few different teaching and sequencing styles. What stood out to me in this class was that several transitions felt abrupt and didn’t seem to give us enough time to properly set up our alignment. Moving from standing positions into squats without a pivot, or transitioning from Half Moon directly into lunges, for example, had both my partner and me spending more time adjusting our feet and positioning than actually moving through the sequence.
My partner has also practiced yoga for several years and has taken HIIT/yoga fusion classes at TruFusion in Las Vegas. He felt similarly…the workout itself was great, but the transitions could use some refinement.
There were also portions involving weights, such as moving through Warrior, Chair, weights to heart center/shoulders, and then pivoting into Chaturanga, where a quick demo would have been really helpful especially to students who I saw had some issues holding the weights. With weights involved especially, I think clearly demonstrating the setup and transitions helps students move safely and confidently rather than trying to figure out their positioning mid-sequence.
Overall, I appreciated the intensity of Angela’s workout. My feedback is really about the flow, transitions, and cueing between movements. As someone visiting Mission Valley from another California CorePower location, I expected the same level of thoughtful sequencing and attention to alignment that I’ve consistently experienced at CorePower studios in different states.
