  I currently work at the UFC Gym in Torrance and I choose to drive all the way over to UFC Rosemead, twice a week, because of Fernando Vargas. There is so much to be said about Fernando, not only as a coach but as a man with incredible talent, leadership skills, and unmatched character. I have been training with him for MMA and every time I leave a session with him, I feel challenged, always finding new moments of growth, and protected in my learning/training environment! Fernando is someone who always makes you feel seen, safe, and that every session is tailored specifically to your needs. As someone who has been in management positions myself, I can confidentially say that the work ethic, attention to detail, the genuine care for others, and the heart for his craft, doesn’t exist often in today’s society. Fernando is one of a kind, I’m thankful to have the opportunity to train with him, to learn from him, and become a better all around person, because of him. I highly recommend to anyone that’s looking for a Coach, to go to Fernando and to know that when you train with him, you’re getting much more than “just a coach.”

  The experience here varies vastly. I usually come on off hours but occasionally have encountered uncomfortable irate members who want to save multiple machines or members who want to sit on machines for 10 minutes before doing their next set. When it's not too busy, then the next issue is the music. Sometimes theyre blasting it at 10, but usually they're blasting music at an 8. One time I had the wonderful experience of a 5 which was just right for me. However the next shift came then it was a 12. I couldn't hear my music through my noise cancelling earphones unless it was also max level. If they are going for front row at a music festival, then they're nailing it. Ample parking is great!

  It’s been a long time since I’ve trained MMA… about 17 years. I just came back two weeks ago and ended up learning under Coach Fernando, and I’ll be real, he’s the kind of coach you don’t come across often. He’s a pro fighter himself, so he actually lives what he teaches. He’s not just standing on the side calling things out, he’s on the mat with us putting in rounds, sparring, wrestling, grappling… doing everything he expects from his team. That kind of presence is rare. You can see he truly cares about his fighters and everyone who trusts in him. It’s more than just training with him, it’s being part of something real. I’m grateful he’s at UFC Rosemead because I honestly don’t think I’d be this motivated without him. Feels good to be back, and I’m looking forward to staying consistent, getting better, and who knows… maybe even stepping in for a fight again.
