  My mother and I recently visited the LensCrafters location in Montclair to inquire about prescription sunglasses. We returned because my mother had previously received excellent service there from a kind employee who assisted her in Spanish and made her feel welcome. Unfortunately, this visit was a completely different experience. The employee who assisted us, Lisa, was rude, dismissive, and seemed annoyed from the moment we approached her. When I politely asked if she spoke Spanish, she abruptly replied that she did not, in a tone that immediately made us feel uncomfortable. As we discussed our options, she repeatedly referred to certain frames as the “cheap” ones rather than simply describing them as budget-friendly options. The way it was presented felt unprofessional and unnecessarily condescending. When we asked about putting prescription lenses into frames my mother already owns, it seemed as though she was trying to discourage us from exploring that option. She quoted a very high price for lenses and appeared irritated when we asked follow-up questions. When I requested a printed estimate, she refused and offered very little explanation beyond saying it wasn’t an “actual estimate.” Throughout the interaction, we felt like we were inconveniencing her simply by asking questions. Rather than helping us explore our options, she made us feel unwelcome and rushed. My mother ultimately told me she no longer felt comfortable in the store, so we left without making a purchase. I later called to get the employee’s name, and that interaction was just as unpleasant. Customer service should make people feel respected, regardless of whether they are purchasing a premium product, exploring lower-cost options, or simply asking questions. Sadly, that was not our experience. We left disappointed and will be taking our business elsewhere.
