I’ve been a patient at this office for a couple of years, and unfortunately my recent experiences have been very disappointing.
My dental insurance covers two routine cleanings per year. However, I noticed that the office has been scheduling my appointments with both the dentist and the hygienist on the same day . During the exams, the dentist would simply say, “Everything looks good. You’ll have your cleaning with the hygienist,” which always resulted in a copay for the hygienist visit.
I’ve seen the hygienist twice this year and had another appointment Tuesday which I needed to reschedule but there were no openings available. Therefore I specifically requested an appointment with the dentist ONLY for my regular exam and a basic cleaning since I had not yet used my insurance-covered cleanings.
When I arrived, I was asked to pay a copay. I questioned why, since my insurance covers two cleanings each year. That’s when I was told I had been scheduled with the hygienist after seeing the dentist, even though I never requested that appointment. The office had added it because there was an “opening.”
I explained that I only wanted to see the dentist, as I had originally requested. The office lady told me, “That’s fine, but the dentist isn’t going to do your cleaning. He’ll only do X-rays and examine your teeth.” I replied that I understood my insurance covered cleanings, and she repeated, “I know, but the dentist doesn’t do cleanings.”
When the dentist examined my teeth he said, “Everything looks good. Just wait and you’ll see the hygienist for your cleaning.” The assistant then told him that I had canceled the hygiene appointment, so I explained that I had only requested an appointment with the dentist for my exam and cleaning. His response was simply, “Well, I don’t do cleanings,” and he walked away.
I’ve never experienced this at any other dental office. If the dentist does not perform cleanings, that should be communicated clearly when patients schedule appointments, especially if they specifically request to see the dentist only.
To make matters more concerning, while I was waiting, I overheard another patient checking in who had also been scheduled to see the hygienist after the dentist.
Based on my experience, the scheduling process feels designed to steer patients toward hygiene appointments that involve additional out-of-pocket costs, even when patients believe they’re using insurance-covered preventive benefits. I left feeling frustrated by the lack of transparency and clear communication. Unfortunately, I’ll be looking for a new dental office

Made an appointment for a teeth cleaning months in advance. This office overbooks patients. I do not feel as if they value our time. Kinda feels like they want to mill out as much billing to the insurance companies as they can... hurry up and wait game...
I will wait 30 minutes at times before I am called back. Then I get Xrays. Then someone talks to me after I wait another 20 minutes.
I spent over an hour and 20 minutes at the office and got no cleaning. The whole reason I made the appointment in the first place.
Follow up. I made my concerns known and staff hustled slightly more. 2 hours later, I have my cleaning complete.
I think I just need to ensure there is zero miscommunication next time.
