  ⭐☆☆☆☆ My experience with Kimberly Chia and the staff Camron at Target Optical in Emeryville was extremely disappointing. I went in for my annual eye exam and was told by the front desk assistant, Cameron, that I was required to purchase a $45 retinal scan in order to be seen. When I asked if the scan was mandatory, I was told that it was. I chose to cancel my appointment and leave. Throughout the interaction, Cameron was combative, unprofessional, and unwilling to answer reasonable questions. For several years under Kimberly Chia’s care, I was led to believe that the retinal scan was a required part of my annual eye exam. After this incident, I visited another Target Optical location, where both the optician and the doctor informed me that retinal imaging is optional and that a dilated eye exam is an available alternative. That directly contradicted what I had been told in Emeryville. Based on my experience, I believe I was pressured into paying for an optional procedure that was presented as mandatory. I have filed a complaint with my insurance carrier and requested that the matter be investigated. Patients deserve accurate information and the ability to make informed decisions about their care. I cannot recommend Kimberly Chia or the Emeryville Target Optical and encourage others to ask questions about all available examination options before agreeing to additional services.

  Dr. Ryan Chia is absolutely top notch. Thorough, asked questions of me, and answered all of mine. Prescribed new contacts that work better than any other prescriptions I’ve received. Highly recommended!
