Dental Implants

Dental Implants in Los Angeles & Beverly Hills Damaged, decayed, or missing teeth can really hurt your self-confidence. They can also cause a number of issues with your oral health. The good news is that there are a number of different dental procedures that help restore the function of your teeth and give you your smile back. Removable dental prosthetics are not without their flaws, and many people have reasonable concerns about choosing them as a tooth replacement solution. Fortunately, modern technology has allowed for a longer-lasting and more effective form of cosmetic dentistry: dental implants. Dental implants look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. Best of all, they don’t require you to make many changes in your oral care routine. This relatively simple procedure will actually fuse your tooth replacement to your jaw bone, which prevents bone loss and keeps your new tooth firmly secured in your mouth. In other words, dental implants offer all of the benefits of other tooth replacement procedures with very few drawbacks. Dr. Alex Farnoosh and The Total Smile team are proud to offer this life-changing dental procedure to any qualified client who feels that it may benefit them. What Are Dental Implants? Dental implants are a surgical procedure designed to replace damaged, decayed, or missing teeth by replacing the tooth root with a piece of metal that is fused to the jawbone. An artificial tooth is then connected to the metal root in order to securely fasten the replacement into the mouth. Dental-Implants-in-Los-Angeles-Beverly-Hills-Dr.-Alex-Farnoosh This process is often a much more effective alternative to dental bridges or dentures, which can be ill-fitting and do not support bone growth in the area where the tooth is missing. Dental implants consist of a few different parts. There’s the crown, which is the part that is designed to replicate a tooth. It’s generally made from porcelain or ceramic. Then there’s the abutment, which is the part that is made to fuse with the jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. The abutment is often made from titanium. Finally, there’s the post, which is another titanium part that connects the crown to the abutment.

Bone Grafting & Ridge Preservation

If you’re looking to receive a dental implant or any other tooth restoration procedure, but the tooth you’re looking to replace has been missing for a significant amount of time, you may need a bone grafting procedure before your dentist can go forward with treatment. Your teeth stimulate growth in your jawbone. When they are missing, it can result in significant bone loss. A deteriorated jawbone will not be able to support a tooth restoration, and in order to give it the support it needs, a bone graft is often required. Dr. Alex Farnoosh and the team at The Total Smile proudly offer bone grafting procedures to qualified candidates looking to strengthen their jawbone in order to receive a dental implant. Read on if you’re interested in learning more about this important procedure! What Is a Bone Grafting Procedure? A bone grafting procedure is a process in which a piece of bone or a synthetic alternative is transplanted onto the jawbone in order to strengthen it. Bone can be sourced from another part of the patient’s jaw, elsewhere in their body, or it can be obtained from an outside source, such as from a bone bank or from a cow or other animal. Synthetic alternatives can also be used and are similarly effective. When you receive a bone graft, you will be allowed to choose where you want your bone material to come from. All sources are considered to be safe, effective, and ethical. The one you use for your procedure will generally be whichever one you are most comfortable with. The bone grafting procedure is relatively simple. Your dentist will provide you with local anesthesia, make a small incision in order to determine how much material is required, and then the new bone material will be transplanted to the site and safely stitched up.

Gum Grafting & Root Coverage

Gum Graft Surgery in Los Angeles Do you have uneven or receding gums? Have your gums left you feeling self-conscious, forcing you to smile with your mouth closed or avoid smiling altogether? Things like age, trauma and periodontal disease can leave you with uneven gums. When your gums are receding, exposing the tooth roots, and leaving you with an unhealthy, unattractive smile, it’s time to consider gum graft surgery. Dr. Alex Farnoosh specializes in gum graft surgery at The Total Smile in Beverly Hills. With his innovative approach and advanced techniques, he can realign your gums and restore the beauty of your smile. Learn more about gum graft surgery and what causes receding gums below. What Causes Uneven or Receding Gums? If you’ve looked in the mirror and noticed your smile isn’t as pleasing as it once was, it could be that you have a receding or uneven gum line. Receding gums, also known as gingival recession, are unsightly dental problems. So what causes this to happen? There are numerous factors that can cause your gum line to recede, including the following: Periodontal Disease Periodontal disease refers to an infection of the gums. Usually starting as gingivitis, periodontal disease can quickly wreak havoc on your gums. Once healthy gums will show signs of distress with bleeding and recession. Over time, gingival recession can become so bad that the tooth root becomes exposed. Age Oftentimes, receding or uneven gum lines are simply the result of aging. As you age, your gum tissue becomes overly thin and delicate, causing the gum line to naturally retreat back. This causes the teeth to appear longer and the tooth root to be exposed. Trauma Trauma to the teeth or gums can cause the gum line to recede or become uneven, sometimes revealing the tooth root and causing bleeding. Birth Defects Sometimes, an individual is born with rare oral birth defects that cause a receded or uneven gum line. This may be from overly thin gum tissue, very delicate gum tissue, or an abnormally high gumline.

Do you want a bright, beautiful smile that can light up a room and endear you to others before you’ve even spoken with them? Contrary to what you might think, having what many consider to be the perfect smile is not just about straight white teeth. There’s also a certain balance between your teeth and gums that you must strike if you want to have that dazzling grin. While some are fortunate enough to simply be born with a smile that belongs on the cover of a magazine, many are not. Some have naturally misaligned teeth, crooked teeth, or teeth with spaces in them, and others have an overly gummy smile. There are a few different reasons you may have a gummy smile, including side effects of medication, genetics and anatomy, and poor oral hygiene. While some people don’t feel overly self-conscious about this issue, many wish to rectify their gummy smiles. If you’re one of those people, we may have the solution you’ve sought. Dr. Alex Farnoosh and the team at The Total Smile offer gum correction services for anyone looking to treat issues with overgrown gingival tissue and transform their smile. Dr. Farnoosh pioneered a gummy smile correction procedure of his own back in 1988 that has since been used throughout the country and around the world. A simple lip-lowering procedure from The Total Smile can change your life for the better by replacing the feeling of self-consciousness you have whenever you smile with a sense of self-confidence and pride. What is a Gummy Smile? A gummy smile, also known as excessive gingival display is just what it sounds like: a smile that reveals a disproportionate amount of gum tissue when compared to the average person. Most people consider a “perfect” smile to be one that reveals very little gum tissue, with the lips resting just above the tooth line. In a gummy smile, the tooth-to-gum ratio can almost be even. While this isn’t necessarily unhealthy, it can be deemed unattractive by some, damaging your self-confidence if you display excessive gum tissue when smiling. If you do have a gummy smile, you’re far from alone. It’s believed that up to 15% of all Americans display a disproportionate amount of gum tissue when they smile. It is particularly prominent among young people and women.

Gum Bleaching

Professional Gum Depigmentation in Los Angeles & Beverly Hills Dark or unusually colored gums can take an otherwise picture-perfect smile and make it less attractive. While they may not be inherently unhealthy, discolored gums are something that many people would prefer to do away with so that they can gain their smiles and self-confidence back. If you’re one of these people, you’ve come to the right place. Dr. Alex Farnoosh and the team at The Total Smile offer an internationally recognized gum bleaching treatment pioneered by Dr. Farnoosh himself. Dr. Alex Farnoosh’s Gum Bleaching Technique In the early 1990s, Dr. Farnoosh suffered from discolored gums that were the result of years of smoking pipes. When one of his patients asked about lightening their gums after receiving bright white veneers, he set out to develop an effective gum bleaching method of his own. Portrait,Of,Happy,Beautiful,African,Girl,Wearing,Bathrobe,,Smiling,At - Gum Bleaching Dentist in Los Angeles - Dr. Alex FarnooshAfter a trial run, testing the treatment on himself, Dr. Farnoosh began offering it to his patients. He has since gone on to have his patented gum bleaching technique recognized in the International Journal of Periodontics and has provided his treatment to thousands of patients from the U.S. and Canada. What Causes Discolored Gums? Discolored gums are the result of hyperpigmentation, a condition in which there is an overabundance of melanin present in the gingival tissue. Melanin is the chemical that creates skin tone. The more melanin there is, the darker the skin will be. The causes of hyperpigmentation in the gingival tissue can vary widely, but the following are the most common: Poor oral hygiene Smoking or chewing tobacco Certain medications Endocrine disorders Genetics Hyperpigmentation can occur in people of all races and ethnicities, but it is more common in those who have darker skin tones, as there is a greater presence of melanin in their bodies. Dark or discolored gums are most frequently found in those of Asian, Mediterranean, African, or Middle Eastern descent. Do I Qualify for Gum Bleaching? If you have dark or discolored gums that make you feel self-conscious or unattractive and you feel that a gum bleaching treatment could improve your quality of life, you’re most likely a good candidate for the procedure. However, you must practice good oral hygiene and have healthy gums to receive treatment. If you suffer from gum disease that is advanced enough, you will have to have it treated before your gum bleaching procedure can be done. To determine whether you’d make a good candidate for gum bleaching, schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Farnoosh. He will assess your discolored gums and determine the cause. From there, he will be able to suggest either gum bleaching or an alternative treatment.

Terrible experience. I went to this doctor only for a gummy smile procedure and explicitly declined any work on my front teeth, yet was talked into shaving them down after he called them “masculine,” which completely ruined my teeth, leaving them severely uneven and permanently altered, with slight improvement to my gummy smile and daily upper-lip tightness. I am now working with orthodontics to correct the damage, and a partial refund was offered only if I signed a 5 page gag order.

Dr Farnoosh was very compassionate and sensitive to my needs. I will definitely go back see her and her staff. Lori, is super kind at the front and makes sure my hygienist explains everything that is going on before any procedure or just basic cleaning started. Lori takes her time explaining the charges and ways to make payments easier for me to do. The entire visit was great and going to the dentist is my least favorite place to go.

Dr. Farnoosh is an amazing periodontist. My mother has been suffering from gum disease for years, and has had multiple surgeries to address it. When we finally found Dr. Farnoosh, everything changed. He has been able to address the issues, and we haven't had to do any additional surgery since coming to him. He's also a really caring dentist, and great to work with.

Years of dealing with diabetes has taken its toll on me. Especially with my smile. I was always embarrassed to laugh or smile or even talk. My gums were so dark. Thank God for Dr. farnoosh. I received the bleaching treatment for my discolored dark gums. I can't thank him enough because of him I can smile again without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. Thank you doctor.
