CycleBar® Berkeley is more than a ride. It’s a journey of self-discovery. With indoor cycling rides designed for all fitness levels, we promise to empower, inspire, and elevate you throughout every day.
I was really looking forward to trying CycleBar for the first time after a friend recommended it to me. Unfortunately, my first experience was quite disappointing.
I booked a 12:00 PM class and arrived around 10 minutes early. As a first-time rider, I noticed a sign asking new customers to wait at the front desk, so I followed the instructions. Unfortunately, there was no one there.
Not knowing what else to do, I tried checking myself in on the iPad, walked over to the studio entrance to look for someone who could help, and went back to the front desk several times. I genuinely tried my best to figure things out on my own.
By the time I finally found someone who appeared to be an employee, it was already 12:00 PM. She informed me that I couldn’t join the class because first-time riders were required to arrive 15 minutes early.
I completely understand and respect that studios have policies, especially when it comes to safety. I also understand that I arrived 10 minutes early rather than 15. However, I had been there trying to check in, with no staff available to guide me through the process.
What disappointed me most wasn’t even the policy itself, but the lack of understanding or willingness to help. When I explained the situation, I was simply told to rebook and pay again.
I would have really appreciated even a small gesture of understanding, especially as someone who was genuinely excited to try the studio for the first time.
It’s unfortunate that my first impression of CycleBar had nothing to do with the actual cycling experience, but rather how I was treated before I even had the chance to participate.
I hope the studio can improve its first-time customer experience so that future visitors feel a little more welcomed and supported.

Highly recommend for those with good time management skills, and only those folks. Classes and instructors are excellent, but the on-time rule is too restrictive. I ran in the door at 6:06 with my shoes on, and couldn’t get in because I needed to ‘be in the room by 6:05’, I was 30’ from the room door. I know folks arriving late is disruptive, but there has to be a more accessible solution. I’m a Perimenopausal woman with a stressful job and raging ADHD, getting to class was a victory, I got all my things together, fought Berkeley traffic and found a parking spot only to be told I was 1 min too late to get in.

The cancellation process is confusing. You can’t just easily call and cancel. You have to go through a whole process where you’ll probably end up continuing the subscription unknowingly. I would recommend taking your business elsewhere.
