⭐ 1/5 — Target Optical sent my prescription sunglasses to its Bryant, Arkansas location—a location that HASN’T EVEN OPENED YET.
I ordered prescription sunglasses online through Target Optical and specifically chose the Bryant, Arkansas Target Optical location for pickup rather than having an expensive prescription order left at my home.
UPS confirmed delivery, so I drove to Target to pick them up. When I arrived at Target Optical, I found it closed. I waited because everything indicated the location was supposed to be open.
Eventually, I discovered a small sign stating that the optical location was not currently open for business. The sign was placed very low, near the floor, and was behind multiple obstacles—including an advertising sign and the posts/retractable barriers blocking access to the optical area. It was extremely easy to miss and certainly wasn’t something I noticed when I first walked up.
Here’s the part I really don’t understand: TargetOptical.com allowed me to select the Bryant location for delivery/pickup even though the location had not yet opened for business.
I was later told that these issues had been resolved. However, at approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning, I went back to TargetOptical.com and tested the ordering process myself. I added a pair of glasses to my cart, proceeded all the way through checkout to the point of paying with Apple Pay, and I was STILL able to select this unopened Bryant, Arkansas location for pickup. The location also continues to show as open online, including on Google.
So despite being told the issue was resolved, a customer can apparently still go through the ordering process and choose this location for pickup even though the Target Optical location has not yet opened for business.
It ultimately took two separate trips, approximately 2.5 hours of my time, and more than 30 miles of unnecessary driving before I was finally able to get my prescription sunglasses.
I did receive a call from a Target Optical regional manager who apologized and attempted to address the situation, which I appreciate. However, an apology doesn’t give me back 2.5 hours of my time or the unnecessary driving.
I also want to make it very clear that the Target store managers and employees were extremely helpful throughout this situation. They were not responsible for the Target Optical issue, but they still went out of their way to help me. In fact, within about five minutes after I finished speaking with the Target Optical regional manager, the Target team located my sunglasses in receiving and got them to me. I genuinely appreciate the effort they made to resolve a problem that wasn’t theirs to begin with.
This was completely avoidable. If a location has not opened for business, customers should not be able to select it as a pickup location, and the company’s website and Google listing should not tell customers it is open.
I hope Target Optical fixes this immediately so another customer doesn’t go through the same thing.
