Optometry

Maynor and Mitchell Eye Center is your full-service eye specialist conveniently located in Huntsville, Alabama. We offer everything from routine family eye care, to specialized treatment and surgery for rare eye conditions. Our team is comprised of dedicated, experienced, and caring professionals whose mission is to keep your eyes healthy for a lifetime.

Contact Lenses

Struggling to find contacts or eyeglasses that actually improve your eyesight? Living with unresolved astigmatism symptoms? Our team can help, starting with an eye exam. Once we've assessed your vision, potentially diagnosed your condition, and measured your eyes, we can guide you through your scleral lens options. It could finally be time to enjoy excellent vision without the halos or eye fatigue you're used to. Huntsville patients with conditions like myopia, hyperopia, and irregular astigmatism can enjoy improved vision by contacting our team.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which carries visual messages to the brain. The damage is usually the result of high intraocular pressure (pressure within the eye) due to fluid building up in the front of the eye, between the iris and crystalline lens. Whether you are in need of a routine exam, have been newly diagnosed with glaucoma, have lived with a glaucoma diagnosis for years, or are experiencing emergency angle closure glaucoma symptoms, we are here to help. We are headquartered in Huntsville and have four locations throughout the northern region of Alabama.

Cataract Surgery

While other methods like phacoemulsification and extracapsular cataract extraction can be used to remove cataracts, our doctors at Maynor & Mitchell Eye Center in Huntsville, AL, can perform cataract surgery using lasers. Laser cataract surgery provides more precise, accurate results than extracapsular extraction and phacoemulsification. Our Huntsville optometrist office uses the CATALYS® laser, which features the INTEGRAL GUIDANCE System™. This creates 3D images of the patient's eyes before and during surgery so our doctors can provide the best possible results. In addition to offering greater precision, laser cataract surgery results in cleaner incisions, reducing recovery time and enhancing healing.

LASIK

Each eye has a cornea, a clear outer layer at the front, that focuses light to create images on the retina. The bending and focusing of light through the cornea is known as refraction. Oftentimes, refraction is not ideal due to issues with the shape of the cornea or eye. Refractive errors lead to myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, which respectively cause nearsightedness, farsightedness, and overall blurred vision. During LASIK surgery, corneal tissue is removed and the cornea is reshaped through the use of a special laser. This allows patients to obtain near-perfect vision without the need for any glasses or contacts.

Comprehensive Eye Care

Eye exams involve much more than just checking whether you need glasses or contact lenses. Our eye doctors use these appointments to screen for eye diseases and perform tests to understand how your vision is functioning in all aspects. We will review your medical history, check your visual acuity, and screen for any irregularities. We may also ask to dilate your eyes in order to perform a more thorough physical exam.

Treatments for Retinal Diseases

Retinal diseases are conditions that affect the retina—a part of your eye that's responsible for capturing light and translating it into information your brain interprets as an image. As you can imagine, problems with the retina can have a significant negative impact on your vision, potentially leading to partial or complete vision loss. Our eye doctors in Huntsville have decades of combined experience in the diagnosis and management of retinal concerns. In fact, we have a dedicated retinal center just five minutes away from our Hunstville, AL, ophthalmology office. If a retinal issue is compromising your health and vision, you're in the right place at our practice.
