UAB Medical West Freestanding Emergency Department

Our Freestanding Emergency Department (FED) is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to treat emergency medical conditions. The FED at UAB Medical West features experienced personnel, full-service diagnostic equipment, and 24/7 access for anyone in need of emergency medical care. The UAB Medical West FED provides emergency services equivalent to a hospital-based emergency department (ED). The only difference is that the UAB Medical West FED is conveniently located closer to home instead of on a hospital campus. If there is a need for admission, the UAB Medical West FED will arrange transport via a local ambulance service to a hospital for admission.
