Very disappointed with our experience at University Hospital’s ER. It was THE WORST. I brought my 2-year-old in after five days of diarrhea, because she started vomiting and spiked a fever. Yet, she was repeatedly pushed back while others who got there after her were taken ahead of her. I was told it was based on “priority,” yet a toddler with ongoing symptoms and risk of dehydration was not treated as urgent.
What made this worse was the attitude of one of the techs. When I asked questions, I was given vague, dismissive answers, yet the same staff member gave clear, direct responses to another parent who was loud, rude, and pushy—and that patient was accommodated quickly. It honestly felt like respectful parents are overlooked while aggressive behavior is rewarded.
No parent should feel like they have to be confrontational just to get appropriate care for their child. This experience was frustrating, concerning, and unacceptable. We ended up having to walk out and seek help for our little one elsewhere.
I delivered here 5 weeks ago and my baby was in the NICU and we both had amazing experiences. University Hospital has great doctors and some of the sweetest nurses when you or your child’s admitted, but the people in the front that we need to check in with and be triaged by are the ones who are awful, very cold, and inconsiderate. We will never take our children there again just to be treated the way we were treated. We came all the way from Uvalde for nothing!

I have had multiple surgeries, stent placements, kidney tube placements, and countless admissions to this hospital. I originally came here for a second opinion and switched hospitals immediately after my first visit.
You can really tell that this hospital values teamwork. In the ER, there are always multiple people coming in and out, helping each other and getting things done efficiently. The nurses are always very kind and never make me feel like a burden. Nurse Lisa in the ER has especially helped make my visits less scary, and I’m very grateful for her compassion.
Yes, the wait times can be long sometimes, but it’s important to understand that if you are well enough to complain about the wait, you are likely stable enough to wait. You never know what is happening in the room next to you, someone could literally be fighting for their life. Be grateful if your situation isn’t urgent enough to be seen immediately.

I would love to give a huge shout out to Doctor Brook Thompson in the Women and children’s Emergency Room he came in and explained everything to me and my wife to make sure that we understood everything they were saying he filled the room with such passion for medicine and sunshine even for him being on his last hour of a 24 hour shift he was amazing

I took my daughter to University Children’s Hospital last night because she was wheezing and had a fever over 102°. She was clearly struggling and getting worse right in front of me. Despite that, we were left sitting in the lobby for over 2.5 hours with no updates, no urgency, and no concern from staff.
What made the situation even more upsetting was watching multiple people who arrived after us be taken back immediately. I understand that some cases are more severe, but leaving a child who is wheezing and visibly declining in the waiting room for over two hours is absolutely unacceptable.
Eventually I had no choice but to walk out because my baby was getting worse. No parent should ever be put in that position. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. This hospital seriously needs to reevaluate how they handle pediatric emergencies and their triage process. If you love your kids and care about their health take them anywhere but here.
