I’d have given this pharmacy ZERO stars had it been an option. My husband needed his insulin and our insurance provider had told us that we could get a very expensive long acting insulin at Kroger for $25 which was about $75 cheaper than our regular pharmacy. I was ignored at the consultation window for quite some time before someone finally addressed me (after another customer who was at the pickup lane). I don’t mind waiting for someone who is in front of me but this pharmacist didn’t seem to want to answer my question or wait on me at all. She stayed a distance away from me and refused to take or look at the prescription box I was holding (or the insurance information I had for her). I explained what the insurance provider had told me, and she finally said that she could not tell me the price of the medication and that we would have to submit it to be filled before the insurance company would tell them the price. By this pharmacist’s reasoning, I should have to take the prescription to every pharmacist in town to find out what I would be paying while my husband languished without life-sustaining medication.
My husband had just had quadruple bypass surgery when he had a major heart attack out of town ( in Abilene) and was there in Hendricks Heart hospital for two months. The diabetes is part of the issue with his heart and it’s very important that it is controlled. I am the sole caregiver for my husband and my 89 year old mother—plus my daughter had thyroid surgery the week of Christmas and I have had to assist her and her husband with babysitting. This isn’t a sob story I’m just trying to put across that I’m being stretched pretty thin here.
Truth is, I need some HELP and clearly Kroger Pharmacy is not willing to help no matter what the insurance company says or how life-sustaining the medication is. When I got home without his medication, my husband told me that she could have entered all the information that I had in my hand (the prescription, the insurance and the prescription card number) and told me if they could fill it for that amount or not—she just didn’t want to wait on me. And that’s the impression I got as well. I’ve been a good customer to Kroger for the 17 years I have lived in the area, and even stuck up for them when other people have been critical online. But I’m done here. There is simply NO EXCUSE for what I experienced there tonight.
