My fiancé and I had been shopping at this GNC for about a month, and from the start, the employee working there seemed completely unqualified. His supplement advice was inaccurate, misleading, and definitely not in line with reputable information. That alone was frustrating, but what happened during a simple exchange sealed the deal for us never returning.
We went in one Saturday to exchange a coffee-flavored protein powder for a Cinnabon one. When we arrived, the store was locked even though the posted hours said it should have been open. Only after we started walking away did the employee open the door. That already gave us doubts, but we went ahead with the exchange.
Not even an hour later, we received a call from GNC the same employee. He claimed he had spoken with his manager and wasn’t allowed to process the return without a receipt, despite us having full proof of purchase on our credit card statement with date, time, location, and product listed. He insisted that wasn’t “good enough” and told us to bring the new protein back so he could undo his mistake, as long as it was unopened. That’s outrageous no store calls a customer back begging for merchandise after they’ve already processed the return. Instead of owning up to his mistake, he harassed us to cover himself.
When we called back to clarify, his story kept changing. First, he denied ever asking us to come back, then he said he was “just informing us” about the receipt policy, and then he completely contradicted himself again. Both of us were on the call and heard exactly what he said he lied, plain and simple.
On top of that, the refund he gave us was completely wrong. The protein powder was $50, yet he only processed $13 back to our account. After promising a “full refund within 5 days” (another lie), nothing ever came through. I had to get my bank involved to dispute the charge.
This was hands-down the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. The employee was unprofessional, dishonest, and clearly not trained to handle even basic transactions. Between the harassment, the lies, the refusal to honor proof of purchase, and the shady refund process, this GNC is a nightmare. Will not be going back to GNC would recommend spending your money elsewhere and save your self the headache of dealing with this underqualified lying employee.
