We just had the most disturbing experience with Home Instead a company assigned to us through the VA for help with Sam's care. The first person sent to us was totally incompetent did as little as possible and spent the majority of time on her phone sitting in our den. I called home instead to tell them she was not working out. Then they sent out Annalisa. She was wonderful helping even more than expected and she had this great invention for wrinkles called skin. She gave me several things to try and I was impressed with her serums and she wanted me to be her model and partner. Anyway Sam and I were very happy with her . Anna and I became fast friends and everything was good until right before Christmas. She came early that morning and was laughing and talking very loud. Sam was just getting up and was annoyed at how loud she was acting. You all know Sam had a stroke and is paralyzed on his right side and his speech is also affected. One-thing led to another and sam became irritated and just wanted Anna to go in another room a confrontation issued with Anna engaging in taunting Sam. She encouraged Sam to cuss more and was pressuring him to try and out cuss her. She kept on until Sam was irate and was trying to get outside to be alone. Anna followed him in his wheelchair and blocked him from getting out the door. Things cooled down I thought and she had her company call the police. He came was here for a short time. He spoke to Sam and asked if all was OK. I told him yes and he left. My point is Anna engaged with Sam instead of trying to defuse the situation she made it worse. She left saying all was okay and said she was going by her office. Later she called me and said she quit the company for a better paying job. The next morning I got a call from her office from Heidi, who told me Anna no longer felt comfortable at our home. I was totally confused. As the last thing Anna said was she would see us tomorrow. I gave her her Christmas present. And she also gave me one. She texted me several times telling me all was OK and then her office said she didn't quit but would not return and none of the other care givers felt comfortable either. I never said a word to her boss about what really transpired. Anna sent me a text saying that until Sam Wallace was out of my life we could no longer be friends. At the VA insistence that I tell Home Instead what really transpired. So I called And told the owner what really transpired. She wanted proof that Anna and I texted and talked without the company knowing. Apparently they have rules against friendships. Having each other's phone number, and gifts totally unacceptable. I would never use this company. Sam was her patient. She should have never antagonize him, or called to get the police here. Had she she backed off went about her usual routine and let Sam go outside and cool down . None of this would've been a problem. Sam has trouble speaking and making himself understood. I'm not making excuses for him. He lost his temper. But Anna should have been trained to defuse the situation. But no she continued to antagonize him. This company has no training and use people who do not even know how to act in circumstances that call for training. Home Instead wouldn't give my side any merit without proof. I regret not saving all the text messages between Anna and myself. Anna had no problem taking gifts or my daughters dog that needed a home. There is lack of boundaries that I was not aware of as this was my first time to ever have caregivers in my home. I just want anyone out their to check out the rules before engaging home care. This was the most upsetting situation I could ever imagine. We needed help. So disappointed with Home instead I wouldn't recommend them to watch my dog. Shame on them for treating this man with blame when he was the patient.
