With Pure Barre Houston | The Heights, you'll build full-body strength at our studio and be inspired by our supportive community.
I enjoy Pure Barre as a regular workout so I came in with high hopes. However, I rated this studio low for the following reasons:
(1) Parking - (9) parking spots in front of the studio. One is a handicap spot, one is a handicap stall and one of the spots you have to drive over multiple yellow flex poles to get in. Otherwise you parallel park on the street which is also limited since it’s a busy neighborhood.
(2) Studio Size - starts to feel crowded at 10 people where other studios comfortably fit 15 with 28 being capacity. The small studio size also means there is a limited amount of barre and mirror space. People who come in groups usually won’t budge. The studio feels at capacity with 1/2 class and is crowded during full capacity or during special classes that open more seats.
(3) Storefront - limited workout clothes and workout recovery options (ie water bottles, protein bars) in comparison to other pure barre studios I have been a member at.
(4) They tend to use POC for social media content but there is little to no diversity reflected in the patrons or staff present. The vibes are just off idk.
(5) I had an uncomfortable experience with one of the instructors during my first 10 challenge. I was told I would receive a pair of pure barre socks of my choice when I completed my first ten classes. The day I completed my challenge I asked the instructor working the desk if I could choose my socks. Although, she assured me she had the “perfect socks”. Which reflecting back I realize was more of a joke because she was smiling/laughing when telling me that. After shuffling through the bin containing several socks she then chose for me a pair of bright red and green striped socks with watermelons on them. I am mixed (afrolatina) so it came off like a pointed micro-aggression to pull for me the one pair with watermelons on them. Especially since I wasn’t wearing red or green at the time? I was in a navy blue top and black leggings so it also clashed with my outfit. I was a bit shocked at first, I even asked for another pair since I saw others were available but I was told no. Even more awkward when she pushed to take a picture of me holding up the socks for their social media (all while cracking up behind the camera). I was displeased with the photo and asked to retake but she didn’t. They then posted it to their instagram story later on. I felt too embarrassed by it all to even bring it up with someone. I didn’t mention the incident till almost a year later when management asked for reasons I was cancelling.
I initially signed up for the unlimited package in July 2024 then reduced to the 8 class package until I ultimately canceled (1) year later. Before this studio I had an active membership from 2022-2024 at another location in Texas. I dislike rating the studio low because pure barre is a great workout and a few of the instructors were cool. However, I am not sure there is enough going for this location to have kept my membership active, especially when compared to other fitness studios within the area.
