Yes. Hello out there.
I had to get glasses for a new job.
I was refferd to Denise Lerma at
Fannin Optical/Mann Eye Institute.
She was polite, professional and genuinely help with picking out frames that would compliment my face and stay within a budget. If you ever need help with eyeglasses or vision and you want to talk with someone who is actually nice. Go see Denise and team at Fannin Optical/Mann Eye
This is a long posting because I want to be fair in my review.
I had cataract surgery in both eyes late fall of 2025 and the YAG procedure the first week of January 2026. My optometrist referred me to Drs. Mann at Mann Eye Institute (MEI) and I chose the younger, Dr Paul Mann (Dr Mann).
I found the staff at the institute in Katy to be numerous, efficient, and above average friendly. I saw various levels of staff my first appointment ending with several minutes with Dr Mann's optometrist and several minutes with Dr Mann. He was in a hurry. When I stated, “I'm very concerned about the surgery,” he said, “Why?”—not in a caring way, but dismissively. He did answer my question, though.
My surgeries went well, but I later learned that my cataracts were “dense” which caused a whiteout effect of my vision during my recovery. My second eye surgery was postponed an additional week because I would confront the same whiteout effect and long recovery with the second eye. My vision in the first eye eventually cleared after a month.
I was very upset at the post-op appointments with my cloudy vision and was told by the staff that “everyone is different.” When I asked why I was so different, I was eventually told about the dense cataracts. Dr Mann later said he should have told me before leaving the surgery not to expect clear vision anytime soon. My vision in the second eye never did improve completely, so I needed the YAG procedure. Again, nothing went as planned and I had (temporarily) cloudy vision and a dilated pupil that took months to return to close to normal. At that point I quit the (MEI) and got an appointment for a second opinion 10 weeks later.
The second ophthalmologist took time with me. He said my vision is 20/20. The crescent I see out of the corner of my eye is the new lens, which is smaller in diameter than my natural lens. In time, my brain will adjust and not “see” it. No two eyes are alike and neither are your two hands. The pupil is a little larger but working well.
I found Dr Mann and his optometrists dismissive and defensive. The test of a doctor is how well he/she handles suboptimal outcomes. All patients want to hear is : I know this isn’t the outcome you expected, but I have the experience and expertise to see you through this. I never heard this. Due to my experience and the higher cost of the surgery at MEI, I do not recommend this practice.

The Mann Eye Institute on Fannin was awesome! Everyone was so kind, friendly, efficient, and very professional. The entire office was super clean and all employees were good about cleaning all surfaces that touched your face or were used. Dr. Phillip Brunson was the best eye doctor I have been to since a child. I am so glad that he was recommended to me by friends and coworkers. They were absolutely right about Dr. Brunson and the Mann Eye Institute being the best experience in eye care. Highly recommend!
The level of testing was beyond exceptional compared to any other eye clinic I have been to in Houston. The technicians used multiple machines and testing devices to provide an extensive amount of data on my eyes and their condition. I am extremely impressed with the doctors and clinicians that evaluated my eyes and found some irregularities than can be corrected, including beginning macular degeneration - with several, 5-minute laser treatments. I will never go anywhere else for my eye exams, even though other options are closer to my home!!!

I went to Mann Eye because I was tired of wearing glasses. They recommended cataract surgery. During my examination, not once did they mention that I had cataracts.Dr. Paul Mann did my surgery and never counseled me on what type of lenses they provide, what to expect after surgery, like SEVERE DRY EYE, WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT YOU WILL SEE HALOS AND RINGS AROUND LIGHTS, and you may need glasses. After my surgery,(7-2023) I was told by Dr. Mann that everything was fine.THIS WAS A LIE. I was treated for dry eye by Dr.Chin and she
suggested scolera lenses to help with dry eye and to see better faraway. I purchased one ($1800) for my right eye. I found that after wearing the lens for about 30 min. the dryness in both eyes was worse. I mentioned this to Mann and they offered another lens that I could purchase of course. It is my feeling that Mann Eye is more interested in making money rather than what's best for the patient.
