Frequently Asked Questions About Arocha Hair Restoration
What is a FUT?
A FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation is a modern method of hair restoration that can improve and rebuild hairlines that have been impacted by androgenetic alopecia, otherwise known as age-related hair loss.
What is the FUT procedure like?
FUT is completed using local anesthesia to numb the scalp. Once the patient has been numbed, Dr. Arocha removes a strip of hair from a predetermined location along the back or sides of the scalp. He then sutures the scalp shut using dissolvable stitches to close the excision.
What is the recovery like for a FUT?
FUT is completed on an outpatient basis, meaning patients are free to return home the same day as the procedure. Side effects of the surgery include scalp redness, swelling and tenderness.
What is the FUE procedure like?
FUE is completed under local anesthesia to ensure the procedure is painless and the patient is comfortable throughout the duration of their treatment. Once the patient has been numbed, Dr. Arocha begins extracting follicular units from the viable donor sites.
What is recovery like after a FUE?
Following FUE, the scalp will be swollen and sensitive. Patients return home the same day and may resume most normal activities within a few days. Common side effects include light bleeding, tenderness, mild pain, itching and swelling.
When will a patient see results after having a FUE procedure?
The newly-transplanted follicular units will shed their hair two or three weeks following FUE hair transplant surgery.
What is a hair transplant?
Hair transplants work by harvesting healthy follicular units—each one containing one to four strands of hair—and transplanting them into balding areas of the scalp.
What are the different types of hair transplants?
There are several different types of hair transplants including FUT (follicular unit transplantation) and FUE (follicular unit extraction).
What are the side effects for a hair transplant?
Common side effects for a hair transplant include scalp redness, scabbing, swelling, and mild pain. Sleeping with an elevated head will help reduce swelling and facilitate a faster recovery.
What is hair restoration/replacement procedure?
Hair replacement surgery typically involves the harvesting of natural, healthy hairs from the back and/or sides of the head and relocating them to the areas of lost hair.
What is recovery like for hair restoration?
Recovery from hair replacement surgery is typically quick and relatively painless. Any mild discomfort in the days following treatment can often be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medication.
When will a patient see results after having a hair restoration procedure?
After hair restoration surgery, the transplanted hairs will first grow and then fall out within about three or four weeks – this is normal.
What hair restoration services do you offer?
Our office offers hair transplant and hair restoration procedures including FUE hair transplant, FUT hair transplant, hair replacement surgery, and more!
What insurance do you accept?
While insurance won't contribute to the cost of your hair restoration, we are proud to work with CareCredit®, a third-party lender that allows qualifying patients to pay for their treatment in affordable monthly installments.
Where can I park for my appointment?
We offer parking in front of our building for our patients.
Do you offer consultations over the phone?
Our team wants anyone who's interested in hair restoration to be able to attend a consultation. We offer free virtual consultations over FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom so patients outside Houston—or those who have busy schedules—can conveniently explore their options.
