I recently had sinus surgery at Sinus & Snoring Specialists, and it was by far the most painful surgical experience I have ever had. This was my seventh surgery, so I am very familiar with post-surgical pain—but this was on a completely different level.
When I woke up, the inside of my sinuses felt like they were on fire. I had intense burning, extreme head pressure, and it felt like I had been punched in the face. My eyes were watering nonstop, and all I could do was try to breath and repeat the word pain to the nurse. The nurse in recovery gave me something additional for pain, but it did not help at all. While I was still crying and clearly in distress, she removed my IV and wheeled me out to my husband. She told him I shouldn’t really be in that much pain and that I was likely crying from an emotional release caused by the anesthesia.
Once home, my husband said I continued sobbing and mumbling the word pain for 4–5 hours before I could finally communicate that the pain was unbearable and I needed help. We followed the discharge paperwork, which only recommended Tylenol and said to contact the office only for severe bleeding—which I did not have. I spent hours holding my head, trying ice and anything we could think of, with no relief. It took four days before the pain finally started to back off and I was able to sleep more than a few hours at a time.
During my pre-surgery appointment, I specifically told the PA that I have had difficulties with anesthesia in the past—not always working properly and even waking up during an oral surgery. He assured me I would be fine and that I would be able to speak with the anesthesiologist before the procedure to address these concerns. On the day of surgery, I was told multiple times that I would be able to talk with the anesthesiologist, but that never happened.
Additionally, my medical history and current medication was completely disregarded. I explained during my pre-surgery appointment that I take medication to raise my blood pressure, yet they prescribed medication to lower it prior to surgery. After speaking with my other doctor, I was told this medication was highly not recommended for me. He also noted one of the prescribed pre-surgery medication could interact with my current medications. I had to message them to ask if these were safe, and was then told not to take them. Even after being told not to take them, I was instructed four more times by staff to take the medication.
Overall, this experience felt like a fast-moving, automated process with little regard for individual medical history or patient concerns. My pain was completely dismissed and my medical background was not properly considered.
If you are considering a procedure with this office, I strongly recommend having other doctors involved who you trust to help advocate for your care.

Excellent service. Dr Slaughter was able to diagnose and treat my terrible face pain. The staff was lovely and well inform as I was overwhelmed with this diagnose and pain that did not response to OTC meds because it was a deep infection in the sinuses. Thank you.

I am sorry to say that my experience with Dr. Slaughter was not great. I got treated by his office for about 6 months. I went through a surgery and a cleaning, and at the end I still had sinus infection. My case was not as easy one. I had chronic sinusitis for years. In my first appointment I explained this to Dr. Slaughter and asked him if I were a good candidate for a balloon sinuplasty and he said that I was. So I was hopeful that his recommended procedures would bring relief to me. But even after fixing my deviated septum, performing a balloon sinuplasty, using compounded nasal spray for five months (as instructed by Dr Slaughter), and taking antibiotics for weeks, I still had sinus infection.
One of the hardest parts for me was that Dr Slaughter did not come to any of the follow up appointments, even when my problems were not resolved. His PA was the one that saw me for all appointments following the surgery. When I had questions for him, his PA would either give me an answer or leave the room to ask him. I was very disappointed that all follow-up took place with his PA, and never with him. Even when he recommended a second procedure, that message came through the PA. I did follow his recommendation and got a second procedure, followed by more antibiotics and more Steroid nasal spray. Still my chronic sinus infection was not resolved. So then His PA said that there was nothing else they could do for me and I felt that they basically brushed me off.
After following all of their recommendations for months, I sadly felt that they treat their patients as numbers. In my opinion they don't have personalized medicine but "one fits all" kind of treatment.
I think if you have minor issues that can be fixed with balloon sinuplasty, then Dr. Slaughter is great at it. But if you need individualized care, then you might get disappointed.

Our family has had four procedure's with Dr. Slaughter and each one was perfect. I will also share that Karen, the nurse who has helped us with two of those procedures for my teenage daughter, was simply INCREDIBLE. Comforting, patient, knowledgeable. She made the experience all that we needed it to be. Grateful for her and how much she cares for her patients.
