Waited over an hour and a half before being advised to go somewhere else since they were short-staffed and only had one nurse. That's understandable, however, the story kept changing since I was first told that they didn't have any rooms available but had two patients getting ready to transfer so it sounded like the rooms would free up...nope. The receptionist was clueless as to how many healthcare staff were on duty (you'd think that would be pertinent information for the front office to know). Also, when we first checked-in, there was a drug detox consultation going on in the lobby and I heard every word of their conversation. So much for privacy.

A family member of mine went to the Family Hospital for a rash while taking an anti-epileptic. He was stable, his labs were normal, and the rash was already improving. Despite this, two providers pushed to transfer and admit him to stop a medication that has been the only one to control his epilepsy. The second I calmly questioned that plan and tried to provide context, the tone changed. (For context I work in dermatology and was consulting TRAINED dermatologist on my family member's situation, in which they disagreed with the family hospitals plan). I was immediately interrupted, talked over, and spoken to in a raised voice. The male physician repeatedly said, “Can I get a word in?” while not allowing me to finish a sentence, and told me multiple times I did not have the credentials to be part of the discussion. In all my years of medical training and being at every doctors visit or hospital admission for this family member, I have never seen a doctor treat a patient and their family so poorly. What could have been a respectful conversation turned into being belittled. Patients and family members have every right to advocate and to understand the reasoning behind major medical decisions. That should not be met with hostility. He decided to leave AMA and the next day, a dermatologist confirmed the rash was not caused by his medication. He has stayed on the medication, and the rash has continued to improve. I truly hope these providers reflect on how they speak to patients and their families. More respect and composure would go a long way for everyone involved. I hope future patients of this hospital are treated a whole lot better than we were.

I had a terrible accident last Saturday and rushed over to Family Hospital asap. They saw me immediately and made a terrible situation much better. I was super impressed with Dr. Huddleston's care and knowledge. He knew exactly what to do and prescribe to improve my situation immensely. Nurse Carmela C. was also expert and precise in my treatment and Ray H. at the front desk was also very efficient and saw to it that I was treated quickly and thoroughly. I hope to not need medical care soon, but if so, I will be going to Lake Travis Family Hospital for complete and expert medical care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Hospital at Lake Travis

Will you accept my health insurance?

Our emergency department accepts all health insurance for emergency visits, regardless of network status. We prioritize your emergency care first, then address financial matters. How much will it cost without insurance?

The cost of an emergency room visit can vary based on the required medical care. Generally, you can expect to pay between $400 and $1,850 for the visit, including imaging and lab work. For extended observation periods (3 to 24 hours), the self-pay rate is $3,000. If you're concerned about costs, consider our FHS membership program, which covers ER visits.
