Love Dr. Ady at Onward PT!! She has approached a recurring injury of mine from all angles with multiple interventions that have been extremely helpful. I love that it’s not a “quick fix” approach, but rather a thorough, holistic approach with a long term goal of preventing re-injury. She feels like a friend at this point and is so knowledgeable!!

Both of the physical therapists, Dr. Ady Layne and Dr. Miller, are amazing. I had a great experience working with Dr. Ady Layne. I originally came in for jaw pain, and her use of dry needling along with specific exercises made a noticeable difference pretty quickly. She also helped me address ongoing back pain, and I’ve seen major improvement there as well. She’s knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely cares about her patients’ progress. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone dealing with pain or mobility issues.

I can’t say enough good things about Onward! Dr. Miller has kept me on my feet, literally, whether I’m training hard, dealing with an injury, or just trying to keep the blood flowing so I can stay consistent. They don’t just treat symptoms, they keep me moving, recovering, and progressing. Definitely a place to check out!

Moving from Grand Rapids, Michigan, I honestly had some fear about finding a place where I could keep my body healthy and moving properly again. Staying active and pain-free is a big part of my lifestyle, so that mattered a lot to me.
Finding Onward Physical Therapy was a huge relief. The environment is welcoming, professional, and focused on real results.
Miller has been great to work with—very knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely cares about your progress. He takes time to explain everything, makes sure you’re moving correctly, and adjusts your plan based on how you’re feeling. The dry needling especially made a big difference for me.
I’ve already noticed real improvement, and I feel confident I’m in the right place to keep building and staying healthy. Highly recommend Onward and working with Miller.
Frequently Asked Questions About Onward Physical Therapy
Do I need a referral from an MD?
In the state of Tennessee, no referral is needed to see a physical therapist. If you already have a referral, you are welcome to bring it with you. If you question your need to see your doctor first, feel free to call us to discuss!
What can I expect in my first visit?
Your therapist will spend the time listening to your medical history and treatment goals. They will then perform a comprehensive physical assessment focused around the movements and activities that are limited. Together, you and your therapist will come up with a game plan for recovery!
What should I wear?
-Please wear comfortable workout clothing to the appointment to allow for movement or possible manual therapy
-If you are coming in for the lower body, it is best to have shorts available
-If you are coming in for the shoulder/neck region, we encourage for women to wear a top that exposes the shoulder blade area
Can I use my flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA)?
Absolutely!
Why don't you take my insurance?
Current insurance reimbursement forces most companies to co-treat multiple patients at once and denies many performance-based treatments that Onward delivers. We believe you deserve better, and we refuse to allow an insurance company to dictate your care.
We can easily prepare a super-bill for you, which will allow you to easily submit proof of your appointment to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.
Can I bill my insurance for reimbursement?
This depends on the insurance you have, but YES, most non-Medicare patients can send “self-claims” to their insurance company for their treatments at our clinic. You should be able to print claim forms from your insurance company’s website, and send it in with the needed receipts and treatment codes that will be provided upon request at our clinic.
The amount of reimbursement or application towards your deductible is completely dependent on your insurance plan. If you call your insurance company to inquire about what you can expect to receive, you should ask about reimbursement for “out-of-network Physical Therapy” expenses sent in via self-claims.
