The lobby has always been clean and fun activities for children of all ages to enjoy while they wait. Staff has been respectful, patient, helpful, and kind. Only thing I would ask for improvement on, the check in process. Sometimes we don’t know where the line begins when walking inside and when trying to call, staff immediately says “hold please”. That can be stressful if you’re lost or running a few minutes behind.
Overall; great place!!!

Our teen daughter has been going to this dentist since the establishment opened. The last two visits for routine cleanings have been a terrible experience. Last time, we waited for over thirty minutes past our appointment time and were told they would be with us as soon as possible. We were finally seen and I chalked it up to simply running behind. Everyone has bad days, right? Until today’s appointment. We arrived about 20 minutes before our 4PM appointment. I went to the restroom when we first sat down. The light barely worked, the restroom looked as if no one had serviced it all day. Paper towels were all over the floor, toilet paper roll was just sitting on top of the toilet paper roll holder, an empty soap container, and paper towels piled on top of paper towel dispenser were the issues in there. I came on out and slowly watched every single person who came in after us be called back. At 4:14, I went back up to the front desk to check and make sure we weren’t passed over, as there is a sign telling you to do so on the front desk (if 15 minutes past your appointment time). I was told the dental hygienist still had 1 minute, but that they would check and see. Someone came out to the waiting room and said she was finishing up with a patient and would be out shortly. We did not get called back until 4:30. If the tables were turned, and we were 30 minutes late, I’m sure our appointment would be forfeited and we would be charged. I’m not sure what is going on, but for it to happen to us twice, six months apart, it is unbelievable. To top it off, once my daughter’s teeth were clean and x-rays were taken, we waited an additional 20 minutes to get a dentist to come and check her teeth. Just sitting there, waiting. I’ve worked all day and we still had a 45-minute drive ahead of us, so to be held up so much longer than a simple cleaning should have been was extremely frustrating. We will not be back. I assume they are over-booking for what staff they have, but there is no excuse as far as I’m concerned. My apologies to the dental hygienist today, as she was kind and I don’t believe she could help change the outcome of our visit.

Got there thirty minutes before appointment. Both receptionists were on the phone, so I “checked-in” by signing a piece of paper on a clipboard. After waiting 45 minutes, I went back up to the front desk and asked if there was anything else I needed to do to check-in, and the lady was confused as if she didn’t realize we had signed in on the little sign in sheet.. the waiting room was full. I feel like there needs to be more activities for toddlers that have to wait so long to be seen. The dental hygienist was nice but soft spoken and probably not the right fit for my toddler that was scared for his first appointment. The actual dentist was super friendly and great. I cannot remember her name but she was awesome.

I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE at all. Very very bad service and no one wants to help. We called today for an appointment and they told us to come at 12:30pm and when we arrived they said we don’t give 12:30 appointments and this is the wrong number for our office, however we called the number and their phone rang so they lied about the phone number and they started making other excuses and were very rude. They did the same thing with people I know, giving an appointment and when they go they tell them there’s no appointment for them.

I was really looking forward to scheduling an appointment here for my boys since they had great reviews. When I called the Hispanic receptionist answers & she instantly sounded very annoyed .
I told her I wanted to schedule an appointment she says “what’s the date of birth” I told her we have never been there before. She says again in a very rude way “date of birth”. I gave her my son’s date of birth & name . Now she’s even more annoyed that she can’t find him in the system . I told her “ we have never been there before.” She says something else but I couldn’t hear her i asked her if she could repeat herself & she says “please hold” & instantly puts me on hold. I just hung up & now will look for somewhere else to schedule my boys appointments.
Frequently Asked Questions About Cumberland Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics of Murfreesboro
Why a pediatric dentist?
Has your child ever begged you not to leave the dentist? Impossible you say? Not at our office. It could be our gentle touch and special way with kids. Our pediatric specialists and staff love children and are specially trained to put them at ease. We teach your children the proper way to take care of their teeth and just as important, they learn that going to the dentist can be fun.
Why are baby teeth so important?
Primary teeth are important because they help with proper chewing and eating, help in speech development, and add to an attractive appearance. A child who can chew easily, speak clearly, and smile confidently is a happier child. Healthy primary teeth allow normal development of the jaw bones and muscles, save space for the permanent teeth, and guide them into place. If a baby tooth is lost too soon, permanent teeth may come in crooked. Decayed baby teeth can cause pain, abscesses, infections, and can spread to the permanent teeth. Also, your child’s general health can be affected if diseased baby teeth aren’t treated. Remember, some primary molars are not replaced until age 10-14, so they must last for years.
What dental problems could my child have?
Some dental problems begin very early in life. One concern is early childhood tooth decay, a serious condition caused by a child staying on the bottle (or breast) too long. Oral habits (such as digit sucking) should also be checked. The earlier the dental visit, the better the chances of preventing problems. Strong, healthy teeth help your child chew food easily, speak clearly, and feel good about his or her appearance.
What is a pediatric dentist?
In the same way that pediatricians are trained to meet a child’s medical needs, our pediatric dental specialists are uniquely qualified to protect your child’s oral health using the most advanced techniques, and all in our delightfully friendly open treatment area. Pediatric dentists have an additional two to three years of training at university pediatric facilities in addition to four years of dental school and four years of college study. Some pediatric dentists (including all of ours) practice general dentistry before specializing, giving them a unique perspective. They learn how to deal with the behavioral aspects of children, how to make them feel comfortable, and to make the experience pleasant. They also are trained and qualified to treat special needs patients.
What should I tell my child about their first dental visit?
We are asked this question many times. We suggest you prepare your child the same way that you would before their first haircut or trip to the shoe store. This will not be the frightening experience you may remember from your youth. If you are nervous about the trip, then the less you say the better. You cannot hide your anxiety from a child (they have radar for these things). We will send you an activity/coloring book before the appointment that will explain everything. Have fun going through it with your child. Your child’s reaction to his first visit to the dentist may surprise you. Click here to see a Youtube video of a real cleaning in our office!
What about preventative pediatric dental care?
Tooth decay and children no longer have to go hand-in-hand. At our office, we are most concerned with all aspects of preventive care. We use the latest in sealant technology to protect your child’s teeth. Sealants are space-age plastics that are bonded to the chewing surfaces of decay-prone back teeth. This is just one of the ways we will set the foundation for your child’s lifetime of good oral health.
What insurances do you accept?
We accept most dental PPO plans and have flexible financing options available.
What should I do if I have a dental emergency?
Dental emergencies can be distressing and worrisome. Knowing what types of injuries can help to avoid unnecessary emergency room visits. Dental emergencies can include facial trauma that damages the structure of the teeth or jaw, loss of a permanent tooth, severe tooth pain, or signs of infection. Our teams are available day or night to assist our patients needs. We have pediatric dentists and staff on call to better serve all existing patients during a time of emergency while the office is closed.
Does your practice accommodate patients with disabilities?
Different children have different dental needs. If you have a special needs child, we offer unique care for unique kids. Whether the concern is anxiety or emotional distress, physical disability, or special problems that require dental attention, such as cleft palate, our pediatric dentists have the ability to provide special needs dental treatment at our offices and the hospital, providing the flexibility that special needs children need from their dental care.
