At first, I was dealing with another company, half the time they wouldn't answer the phone and if I left a message they wouldn't return the call. Dealing with National Seating and Mobility was so easy to deal with. Very few phone calls were made. They contacted me to do an assessment I went and a few weeks later I received a phone call and they were delivering my chair. Andy came to my house explained the chair, every button and EVERYTHING. I drove it for a while and he explained charging the chair, approximately how long a charge would last, how to take it apart for transport and how to put it back together.
I'm very thankful my doctor's office recommended I give National Seating & Mobility a call.
I highly recommend them if you're needing a motorized chair

I've been trying to get my powerchair fixed since the end of May. It took over a week to get a response. On June 9th, my chair was assessed by them and I had my doctor put in the paperwork for insurance. They blamed insurance for the long wait, when they actually hadn't even submitted a request to the insurance yet. (I know because I called my insurance multiple times and I also called them and they admitted it). They said the reason they hadn't submitted the paperwork was because the lady in charge of my case was doing some training. 2 weeks later, they said they were waiting for parts. Now I'm sitting here still waiting for parts. When the man came on June 9th, he said it would take 3-4 weeks. We are going on 6-7 weeks now with no end in site. Everytime I call, my "case handler or whatever her title is" sites that she has been having training and that's the reason for the delay.. Meanwhile, I've been stuck in the house for the better part of an entire season and doctor is having to figure out how to treat the new damage to my fragile joints and bones. I can barely care for myself and this is severely impacting my mobility, quality of life, and overall health. If zero stars were available, I'd be choosing that.
Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
