Went in to buy an Alani Nu energy drink and I'm absolutely shocked at something so asinine that happened. I buy those drinks everywhere....gas stations, target, Walmart, Kroger, etc. and not once have I been asked for my ID. So me and my wife go in there to get one because I haven't had any caffeine at this point in the day, she asked which one I wanted and grabbed it for me. We walk up to the register and the scrawny nerdy dude that used to work at GameStop (I know this because I used to buy from him there) starts getting my wife's info for a rewards profile. He then ask for her ID, which I think is crazy but I somewhat get because the cans say 18+ years old, but it's not a law so they don't legally have to ask for it, that's just recommendation. He tells her he can't sell it to her without an ID, so I volunteered mine (I'm 32) and let him know I was paying with my card anyways, but he still refused because she was the one who carried it to the counter. I pushed back a little by acknowledging nowhere else asks for it and he even said "you know that, and I know that, but this is a corporate store. It's policy to ask, and they don't care. She brought it up here so I have to get her ID." So I said "Fine, go put it back, I'll go get it or another one, and give you my ID and debit card to buy it." and he still refused saying that it is policy we can't buy anything without her ID since she brought it up. So we said to forget it and as we walked away I said "no wonder you got fired from GameStop" and he mouthed off back "actually I didn't get fired" and he kept saying something else but I was too far away to hear him at that point. Fun fact, he was at the GameStop in the Johnson City mall, gets promoted and relocated to the Fort Henry Mall location, within a year they close that store (so obviously he didn't do good enough numbers as a store manager there), and gets transferred back to the Johnson City Mall location, and he had told me earlier in this experience he had been with this GNC for a little over a year so chances are, unless he had no loyalty to a company that had him for years as an employee, then he got fired or best case scenario, laid off because he has no actual value. This was my first time in this location in 4 years, and won't be back. The last time the store manager, I believe his name was Andrew as well, implied I had stolen merchandise in an online order I was trying to return, so I told him it was shitty to do that with no proof, and he refused service to me afterwards. Found out from a former employee there a few months later that he was terminated for skimming cash from the registers. I'm definitely not going back, so sick of stupid policies when I even have an ID, unfounded accusations, and employees that make me feel uncomfortable when I'm in there. Nerdy dude from GameStop doesn't deserve to be employed after that refusal of service.
