I saw Dr. DaSilva recently for an issue with my right knee. He made his diagnosis and provided treatment options. When I declined meds and steroid injections, this was not well-received by him. I asked about non-medicinal treatment options such as physical therapy, activities to restrict or initiate, lifestyle changes/modifications that would provide pain relief and improved quality of life, and he dismissed these as viable options, literally threw up his hands and proceeded to.end the office visit. He was not interested in answering any of my additional questions. He was dismissive and rude. When I mentioned the reputation of ortho specialists in medical school training, he became defensive and said that orthos "had to be at the top of their class in medical school." This validated what I had just said. I am an active advocate of my health, which has served me well, so I am not docile and do not blindly accept that meds and steroids are always in the best interest of my overall health because of long-term side effects. I advocate for quality health care as a collaboration between the doctor and patient in which there are discussions about treatment options rather than a command of the doctor's orders and a dismissal of my concerns. I am sure he is an experienced and competent physician, however, there should be flexibility in at least considering a patient's specific concerns and some sense of considering alternative treatment options. After the visit, I read the office notes and was surprised and dismayed that he'd indicated in the notes that He had discussed conservative treatment options with me, such as physical therapy, exercise, etc. This is not true. I asked Him specifically if physical therapy, exercise, etc., would help, and he dismissed them outright. The only conservative treatment option he recommended was using topical Voltaren gel. His note about this is misleading and deceptive. I do not consider the office visit as conducive or helpful and deserving of the co-pay I was.required to prepay online BEFORE the office visit only to be dismissed and disrespected in the manner in which I was treated. I would appreciate contact from the business office.
