Unfortunately, my experience yesterday completely changed my opinion. I brought my daughter with me so she could sit and do her homework while I worked out. I wasn’t aware that children must be at least 13 (she’s 11), and I understand rules are rules—that part wasn’t the problem. The issue was how the manager handled the situation. She was extremely rude, very dismissive, and essentially kicked us out in a snotty manner. When I later called to cancel my membership, she was just as rude, she told me I had to come in to cancel, and then hung up on me. I then called the corporate number I found online. They were polite and helpful, explained that someone would reach out in 3–4 days, and even assisted me in canceling my membership online—something the local manager failed to mention. I will not return to Planet Fitness. Maybe other locations are better, but the North Smithfield, RI location needs its management seriously reevaluated.
