It was our first time there today and let me just start by saying how polite and friendly everyone was. The staff was great with my boys, exceptional even! My boys are already looking forward to going back!

My visit started off pretty rocky. I had taken my granddaughter to the Wyomissing office for a cleaning and check up. I was badgered about having custody papers after I had notified the office previously that my daughter had passed away. This was very traumatizing and triggering as since my daughter passed away every appointment I have to take my granddaughter to without is heart breaking. I understand that there needs to be rules however, if I was going to harm a child I wouldn’t be taking her to get her teeth cleaned. I’m of a certain age and I could find other things to do other than take a child to the dentist that I didn’t have the right to take. I explained that it is very frustrating to have to explain this and especially in front of the child. We try to keep her little mind off of it as much as possible and having to explain our situation not once but three times was very disheartening. I just feel that common sense should be used. This is not a custody case between a divorced couple that may have custody issues. My daughter is dead! I am doing the best that I can trying to get my granddaughter the help that she needs. This is not the first time this has happened. Back in 2022 when my granddaughter came to live with me the dentist told me that I needed to custody before I could have her cavities filled. So I had to go to the courts which took over a year which led to her cavities having to be placed on the back burner. Eventually after explaining the situation for the third time the account was noted not to bring up my daughter in the presence of my granddaughter which I do appreciate. Hopefully we will not have to go through this again I’m sure the staff was just doing their jobs but I feel that the rule should be changed or at the very least they should be able to use common sense and their own judgment.

It always takes so long to complete an appointment. Always in there over an hour and a half. If there are any cavities at all, their soonest appointment is always a couple months ahead and can only schedule one appointment at a time. I have also come to an appointment and they said it was cancelled but the night before I would get a reminder of the appointment. They will cancel your appointments because they overbooked. I thought it would get better but it keeps making me feel like our time/childrens emotions are not that important. I do appreciate all they do though.

Our family dentist referred my daughter to get an extraction and spacer for a molar. For our consult we waited 45min in the lobby and another 1hr in the room before we were seen. Did not expect to be there over lunch and my daughter was so hungry! They had our dentist send X-rays over, and then we were told they won’t give recommendations based on X-rays from another dentist. Recommendation was to get a root canal… And also a cap on another tooth that we have no issues with and didn’t want to get done. I felt scolded when I asked to get the tooth pulled instead of a root canal, and that I can’t pick and choose what I want done. It was get both jobs done as recommended, or none at all. Seeking another opinion elsewhere.
When we were in the room still waiting to be seen I received a text confirming our next scurried appointment 6 months from now. What?! I did not schedule an appointment, nor do I want one!

What causes toothaches?
There are many different factors that can cause tooth discoloration. An abnormally colored tooth is anything other than the yellowish-white to the white color of normal teeth. The factors that contribute to tooth color include congenital conditions, genetics, infections, and environmental factors. Abnormal color and shape may be caused by a malfunction in body processes. Some of these factors can influence the way your child’s enamel is formed, while others simply stain the enamel. Teeth may be uniformly discolored or it may appear as spots or lines in enamel. In addition, discolored areas may have a different density and porosity than normal enamel. The color and hardness of enamel can also be affected by drugs or medications taken by either the child during the time of tooth development or by the mother while pregnant.
At what age should my child stop thumb-sucking?
Thumb sucking is a normal habit for many children. Its peak occurrence is at about age two and it can be an important source of pleasure for an infant or toddler. This habit is usually nothing to worry about since your child will usually outgrow the habit. However, if they continue to suck their thumb past age 4, dental problems such as malocclusion may occur.
